A Long Weekend for Canada Day: Some Bosses Opt for a Paid Day Off
As Canada Day approaches, many employees working Monday to Friday find themselves facing an unexpected dilemma. The statutory holiday, falling on a Tuesday this year, creates a somewhat awkward schedule, leaving many stuck with a Monday that feels oddly out of place. For those eager to enjoy a long weekend, the question arises: should they burn a vacation day just to make it happen?
However, a growing trend among some forward-thinking startups is changing the narrative. Instead of juggling schedules and cramming in work alongside festivities, these companies are declaring Monday a paid day off. Leaders are taking a proactive approach, recognizing the importance of a well-deserved break for their teams. By offering a spontaneous extension to the holiday weekend, they not only enhance employee morale but also foster a culture of appreciation and balance.
This move isn’t just about convenience; it reflects an evolving understanding of workplace dynamics and well-being. With discussions around work-life balance becoming more prominent, these bosses are setting a positive example. By prioritizing their staff’s mental health and happiness, companies are likely to see benefits in productivity and loyalty in the long run.
As more employers lean into this compassionate approach, employees are left with a sense of gratitude, ready to celebrate Canada Day with friends and family, fully recharged and invigorated for the days ahead.

Computer people live in a different world,a computer never built a building, never fix a machine or grew crops in the field, these people need to take lots and lots of days off,you are killing the living world with your key boards playing with peoples lives.
Not my employer.
now that he's an employer, he willingly chooses to be kind instead of perpetuating what other employers do.
gawd… if only….
My employer, Chewters Chocolate. 😊
Decent human being, unlike most employers.
I suggest spending the day looking at new countries to live in that will give a future and safety. Canada is not that.
I treat my staff how I would want to be treated by my boss (when I was younger and today). I have also told my staff this – and that includes taking Monday off without them having to claim a vacation day for it.
Employers that take care of their staff get a lot more loyalty – not from ALL but from most. This helps retention & staff who will give EXTRA that is not required. Good job for the boss BUT as a boss, I WOULDN'T be giving Monday off, I would be giving the DAY AFTER Canada Day off – so you have time to rest & recuperate your energy for work the FOLLOWING day after your Canada Day (& night) celebrations.
God bless Canada.
lol soon he will use ai to layoff most of his staff don’t fall for these gimmicks 😂
Not my work haha working Monday and taking Tuesday just off
Maybe minister of health should listen to interior health staff of bc ??
Use a sick day.
That's the spirit!
I wish my job did this
It’s a forced layoff day. And they just don’t want to pay. They already pushed us to 32 hours per week. I’m looking for a new job.
I had to use vacation for Monday…
Not mine. 😂 🇨🇦
i knew everyone would take monday off so i took wed and thurs off instead hehe now i get to just chill at work on monday by myself 2000 IQ move
AI will give many days off. Just wait.
Paid off work? What about us who are jobless?
Should be renamed to: Great bosses instead of some.
His employees are so lucky to work for him they will put in 150%
If your company is not an essential one and your boss makes you come in on Monday, that's a red flag that shows toxicity. And dont talk about mental health support when there is no time off, when do you expect people to use this service?
The rest of the employers smart enough to realaize that socialism doesn't pay the bills.
As a retiree every weekend is a long weekend…
..but MONEY!!
I found 10 hour wirk days to be exhausting and burnt out. Would rather be able to pluck off a task or two after an 8 hour workday and be able to actually enjoy my twi whole days off
Because they won’t give out stat pay.
