The population of Mumbai has almost doubled since 1991. As a result, more than half of its inhabitants live in slums or on the street, according to estimates. The ensuing squalid conditions that exist unfortunately create various public health problems and medical conditions. 7.6% of the population in the Argentinian capital resides in these shantytowns, or villas, as the locals call them. But in Buenos Aires, paramedics driving state ambulances refuse to enter the narrow streets of some of the capital’s shantytowns, which leaves the task to volunteers.
