While many people may assume that the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt is the largest pyramid in the world, that is actually not the case. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the title of the largest pyramid by total volume belongs to the Great Pyramid of Cholula near Puebla, Mexico. Located just about two hours from Mexico City, this impressive structure is a must-see for any history or architecture enthusiast.
In a video titled “Visiting the largest pyramid in the world,” travel writer Gabriel Morris takes viewers on a journey to explore the ancient wonders of the Great Pyramid of Cholula. With stunning aerial views captured by a DJI Osmo Action camera, viewers can truly appreciate the scale and grandeur of this incredible pyramid.
Throughout the video, viewers are treated to a soundtrack of captivating music, adding to the mystical atmosphere of the ancient site. From upbeat tracks like “Fuego” by Hugo Correia to more ambient tunes like “An Ancient Dome” by Trabant 33, the music compliments the visuals beautifully.
Gabriel Morris, the creator of the video, is a seasoned traveler and author who has been exploring the world since his youth. With a passion for budget travel and adventure, Gabriel brings a unique perspective to his videos and books, including “Following My Thumb” and “Gabe’s Guide to Budget Travel.”
For those looking for inspiration for their next travel adventure or simply wanting to learn more about the world’s wonders, Gabriel’s video on the Great Pyramid of Cholula is a must-watch. So, if you’re ready to discover the largest pyramid in the world (that isn’t in Egypt), be sure to check out this captivating video and consider supporting Gabriel’s work on Patreon or through tips for his ebooks.

Not sure if you know this, Gabriel, there are tunnels in the pyramid that you can enter. I was there in 2016 with a tour guide, The pyramid has many levels and there are steps to each one. Happy New Year!
Hello Gabriel, the city of Cholula is also the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Americas with evidence of settlement dating back 2,000 years.
I remember learning how to say Popacatapetyl in primary school geography class. Lots of laughter to get it right😂. I feel the church is one of the most beautiful you have ever shown us. Many of the pyramids of ancient times were built on crossing ley lines as are many churches also. Happy New Year Gabriel.
Beautiful place!
Happy new year Gabriel! Once again, thank you for showing us the world! I wish you good health and safe travels!
Also Cholula is the oldest continuously populated city in the Americas
Nice view from on top of the pyramid.
Love seeing the new Mexico videos!!
I''ve been wanting to see more of the interior, been to Mexico 8 times but always on the coasts
Great video, Gabe! Super interesting — thanks for sharing!
The Great Pyramid of Cholula has been certified as the largest pyramid in the world by volume by the Guinness Book of World Records:
"The Quetzalcóatl Pyramid at Cholula de Rivadavia is the Guinness World Record holder for the title of largest pyramid in the world. The ancient temple measures 166,538,400 ft³ (3.3 million m³) and is also the "largest monument ever constructed," according to Guinness."

However, not everyone agrees. According to this website it's only the third largest pyramid in the world after the two largest pyramids in Egypt, because the Cholula pyramid is composed of multiple structures, so it isn't all one pyramid: https://www.touropia.com/largest-pyramids-in-the-world/
And then there's the issue of the Bosnian pyramids, which would be the largest pyramids in the world if they were actually confirmed to be pyramids. However most archaeologists believe that they are natural hills. I visited the Bosnian pyramids a few years ago. Whatever they are, they are very fascinating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s410nFVP0do
