Have you ever thought about where your chocolate actually comes from? Most of us are familiar with the sweet, indulgent taste of chocolate that we’ve grown up with, but the reality of what chocolate truly is might surprise you. In a recent video by Gone With the Wynns, they take us on a journey to the volcanic foothills of the Philippines to explore one of only 19 officially recognized heirloom cacao sites in the world.
Chocolate was once considered a ceremonial beverage by the ancient Mayans and Aztecs, believed to have mystical and hallucinogenic effects during ceremonies. Today, a family in the Philippines is preserving the tradition of crafting chocolate in its purest form, giving us a taste of what real chocolate should be.
The video showcases the process of making chocolate from bean to bar, highlighting the natural compounds found in cacao that offer health benefits such as boosting mood, energy, and heart health. The Wynns share their experience of tasting single-origin heirloom chocolate and compare it to commercial chocolate, showcasing the vast difference in taste and quality.
If you’re curious to learn more about the art of crafting chocolate and the importance of preserving heirloom cacao sites, be sure to check out the full video on the Gone With the Wynns YouTube channel. Who knows, it might just change the way you think about the chocolate you’re eating.

Add sugar and the taste changes, now add different types of sugars and see how the flavors change then.
Wow! What a wonderful experience. I love chocolate. I buy from a small craft producer in my home town of Toronto. They buy organic beans directly from farmers in Oaxaca, Mexico where they initially developed their product. I can only imagine how good the chocolate could be at Malagos Garden Resort.
I found one site where you can buy a box of 3 dark chocolate bars of theirs. Roughly $15 US to buy them and then add $!60 for shipping 🙂
How many others ran to their website in hopes of being able to purchase in the USA? I did well before the end of the video to be quite disappointed. Then, I continued to watch till the end. Maybe some day a young friend will go there and bring back a little slice of their chocolate heaven.
I searched for Malagos chocolate on Amazon sadly its not available but found tableya wafers from Davao I hope its as good as theirs.
Who needs a boat? The vlogs are killin' it!!
Wow😮
You guys are amazing. Because of your inspirational videos I will be purchasing a sail boat in the next few years. Cannot wait to see where the road, or wave takes you guys!
Northwest Pennsylvania ❤1
So interesting!! I can only imagine the aroma!!
11:11 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes!!! Those beautiful ferns growing on the trees are called Staghorn ferns here in the US. I used to have a huge one hanging from my oak tree on a chain;). Love them❤❤❤. Great video! Love these amazing behind the scenes videos you bless us with!!!❤🎉❤
Another wonderful vlog guys!
Visiting there is now on my list! Cheers
Another great video! I wouldn't expect anything less from y'all! That being said, don't quit your day job, Nikki. 😆
not only do i appreciate the editing, great story telling, but the sincerity and deep research on the topic just shows on every video you put out.
This episode if anything it teaches…..is not quantity nor the mindless craving & consumption of delicious chocolate……it's the slow down and savor the moment, letting the taste and aromas of wholesome chocolate envelope and enrich your experience. Especially as u have showed the slow and thorough process of this special farm….the labor of love and perfection 🥰 along the way
As a chocoholic ❤ this series so far 😍
I will watch any content you put out. Boat hunting is almost or harder than house hunting.
I'm curious if the experience has changed the way you experience premium chocolate 🍫….so easy to cram one's mouth with tasty chocolate, or savor slowly unlocking more depth, intricacies that we miss in our Lucy moment 😅
❤❤❤❤❤❤
So lucky you guys got to taste the real thing. Im sure it must be so healthy and beneficial for our bodies. Hopefully this is the way the food in the world will turn too so that we can taste the real thing. Also wanted to say that just that tree that Jason showed full of future chocolates, that is the way I see "Mother Earth". She is capable of feeding us all in abundance. Thank you again for a beautiful video. 🙏❤
After all that, I really wanted to try that delicious looking chocolate, only to find out that won't be happening anytime soon. I really enjoyed learning about heirloom cacao and everything that goes into the process of making chocolate. Rex and everyone there seem like wonderful people.
Thank you, for taking us along on such unique adventures of discovery. Unfortunately many of us can only dream of experiencing these things in person, either because of financial or because of health limitations. I am enjoying these adventures vicariously through your videos, and they are a highlight in my troubled and exhausting daily life.
I also love how you intersperse the documentary with shots of natural beauty, like the orchids or the koi ponds.
Enjoy the Philippines❤
Great video! You both have lovely, contagious laughs. Malagos is beautiful. They really take chocolate making to the next level. I love watching your travel videos.
I wonder why internet shrinks think people who watch this channel need insane asylum """therapy""""
Chocolate Tasters……From a Boat Show to a Candy taster
That was a very informative video. It made my mouth water just watching it. Too bad we can't taste it here in the states. 😿
Look at that! You guys found your new niche. Travel to different places in the world to find those who are doing things differently and making a difference for not just their local community, but the world. No sailboat or cat needed. Venture on.
Absolutely love all your adventures. So educational. Before I watched the entire video I went online to see where I could buy and support Malagos Chocolates and found out at the very end I would have to travel to to experience their chocolate. It really does make you appreciate where and how some of your everyday food/coffee comes from. Keep up with all your hard work and thanks for bringing us along.
13:45 I love Lucy moment there. The videos post-boat life are equisite and high quality documentary. Netflix needs to see this.
Sometimes it is actually the destination and not the journey. Life and hardships are what you make of them and you guys make it look like a Willie Wonka golden ticket kind of life.
I saw the horse crow like a rooster.the whole show is great. thank you.
these last two video have been great. I so want chocolate but my docotor and the ladies at the diabetes clinic would make me pay! What a great experience that must have been. Flash backs of my late teens earning cash tree planting. See you next week, and whatever it brings.
…kinda tripping me out‽
you shared something about your mother, that seemed heartfelt & true.
the lifestory told, had me sold.
after hearing this story, i'm unsure if it was her, who passed on: tripping me out
to you.
are you an old Soul?
are you one who's gone from rags-to-riches & back to rags, with a possible upswing to riches again?
life's a rollercoaster, & through it all, you Chickadoo can do!

The orchids are amazing there! Loved those Australian ferns, very cool.
Do you have any left to share when you are home? I know I will appreciate much more after watching the love, time, and efforts that go in to making this chocolate! You told me it was special which I could taste.
Reminds me of the love and time we put into make our cosmetics! ❤💄
Wynns and Delos 1.0 collaboration since the boat is available?
My kind of COOOOOL! Fascinating. A definite heirloom vid!
Mmmm, chocolate!
Wonderful!
Great video. Y'all have moved into a whole new documentary style (?).
And, were those piranha koi?! Ha, ha!
Go to Negros Island they also have rare cacao trees there 😊
Amazing story tellers!
I loved all the information from the Malagos experience. Netflix doci on the way – right?
I was waiting for this video and it didn’t disappoint. This type of content is in your wheel house.
Great episode. I purchase chocolate from Whole Foods all the time and just looked at the packaging after seeing this part two episode. Imagine my surprise to realize it comes from Davao!
Thank you, and Jason, for a great episode of chocolate. Never would have imagined how complicated the process was! Thank you also, the people of the Philippines!
Move over coffee, we're drinking chocolate with breakfast from now on! 🤤 It was good enough for the ancient Mayans and Aztecs as a ceremonial beverage, so now it will be a part of our morning rituals. They believed it gave strength, vitality, and even mystical or hallucinogenic effects during ceremonies. And they weren't far off! Cacao is packed with natural compounds like theobromine, magnesium, and antioxidants that boost mood, energy, and heart health. So really, as long as it's the pure stuff, it's a health drink! Masarap!
