Two individuals involved in a violent disorder in Leeds city centre over the weekend have been sentenced to prison time. Sameer Ali, 21, and Adnan Ghafoor, 31, appeared in Leeds Crown Court where they received their punishments for the offence of affray.

Ali, who was previously described as being of “good character” by the judge, was handed a 20-month prison sentence for his involvement in the violent incident. Ghafoor, on the other hand, received a harsher sentence of two and a half years in prison for affray, which includes a 12-month term for breaching a suspended sentence.

During the court hearing, it was revealed that Ali had attacked three men, with Judge Guy Kearl KC noting that he punched two of them with “full force”. The judge also mentioned that Ali and his group laughed and congratulated themselves as they walked away down the centre of the road after the attack.
