Sidewalk Lechon!” Join Host Sonny as he takes you on a mouthwatering journey, uncovering the rich tapestry of Puerto Rican food culture—right from affordable local gems to gourmet interpretations.
A Taste of Tradition
Starting off at El Rincón Boricua, Sonny introduces viewers to hearty dishes like Higado Guisado (liver stew) and Guineítos con Mollejas en Escabeche—both affordable options that evoke the nostalgic flavors of home. With the spirit of Puerto Rican cuisine rooted deeply in community and familial love, this diner shines as a spot where anyone can experience authentic flavors without breaking the bank.
The King of Lechon
Next, Sonny visits Lechonera La Piraña, where owner Angel Jimenez serves up the star of the show: Lechon—a majestic roasted whole pork, complete with crunchy skin and succulent meat. But this isn’t your average barbecue; Lechon serves as a festive centerpiece in Puerto Rican culture, often associated with celebrations and gatherings. Jimenez shares his dedication to the craft, showcasing the meticulous preparation that goes into making his iconic dish right on the streets of New York.
Elevating Puerto Rican Cuisine
But the journey doesn’t stop there. Sonny pushes boundaries with a visit to Chef’s Dinner Table, where Chef Jonathan Melendez redefines Puerto Rican cuisine with an upscale dish that combines traditional elements with contemporary flair. The Puerto Rican Surf and Turf plate is an opulent blend of spiny lobster and Pork, casting a spotlight on how Puerto Rican roots can be expressed in fine dining.
Cultural Significance
Throughout the video, Sonny navigates the question: can Puerto Rican food be both humble and luxurious? With insights from local chefs and food lovers, he uncovers the deep connections between culture and cuisine, highlighting that food serves not just as sustenance but as a source of pride and identity for communities.

I usually dont skip your ads, but fuck gambling.. do better!
your export has some artifacting and audio drop outs
Never thought you partner up with Draftkings.
"We adding lobster to make expensive" is this some kinda of joke 😂
Wtf, why do you advertise gambling? This is just sad.
In some ways, I feel justified in this, seeing lechon, when, I was in second grade, and thought the Puerto Rican flag was the Filipino flag
… My parents were too busy working as nurses in the hospital to have corrected me on what their flag was at the time…
Man was it embarrassing as a wee second grader in 2001 to learn how wrong I was 😅
I’m from Hungary, we eat pork liver stew, it’s delicious! 😋
I would love to try the lechon, that plate looked so yummy!
Sunny does a Puerto Rican episode. What about doing a Dominican episode you racist! He thinks we are the same

It is a shame you have gambe ads…..
You are better than this, probably you have more money than you will ever need, don't be so money hungry…..
Gambling is one of the main chronic disease of this era….

Please try Myanmar ( Burma ) food in NY. The country's food is not well known by many people, due to the civil war people can't travel to Myanmar. So our traditional food is not well known by the people
Fine dine is nothing more than expensive ingredients dressed all pretty with sauces or condiments served in the smallest portions possible at the most $dollars$ from your wallet LMAO 🤣😵
Yeah there are some cooking techniques involved to further sensationalize the fanfare compared to mom's cooking but that's about it. Oh yeah plus the lavish dining decor and fancy plates or plating. Nothing more 🙄
Orro is Back 🎉 I love the SPANISH episodes 🫶🏼
Do a space food episode?
haram food
New York City A nightmare there yesterday Bronx
Should be city of honks that's the only thing people knows crazy part they the people think it bothers you
If there's something I would never pay it's any meal which is that expensive per serving… I mean $100+ for any meal is way too much and way unnecessary
I lived in Puerto Rican neighborhood for a long time, and the one thing I know about Puerto Rican people is that they are there to feed the people. They want to make sure everybody is full, everybody has something good to eat. It's not about the price it's about the heart. Why I love my Puerto Rican people!
Glad to see Oro back! 😊
awesome to see Orro! great co host, even better person!
Thanks for bringing Orro. Both him and Calvin are my favorites
Love the show, gett off the gambling money, its poison.
I dont care who you take for sponsors. I watch FLAIR and he is always spouting off about DraftKings. I just fast forward the video, no harm, no water fowl.
I get you need to make money, but shame on you, Sonny. These gambling companies fucking ruin lives. You are directly complicit, I don't believe you are an idiot, you likely know that it is wrong but you are ignoring how wrong it is just for cash do better
