UN speaks to the press following Israeli strikes in Sanaa and Yemen’s western ports

The United Nations addressed the media in the aftermath of Israeli attacks in Sanaa and ports along Yemen’s west coast, expressing grave concern over the situation. UN spokesperson Stephanie Tremblay described the situation in Yemen as particularly alarming, with reports indicating that Israeli airstrikes had caused numerous casualties, including at least three deaths and dozens of injuries.

During the attacks, a United Nations humanitarian air service crew member was also injured when the airport was targeted. The strikes occurred while a high-level UN delegation, headed by World Health Organization Director General Dr. Tedros, was present at the airport. The delegation had just finished discussions on Yemen’s humanitarian crisis and the release of detained UN and other personnel.

The Israeli attacks on Yemen come amid escalating tensions in the region, with the Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah, being targeted. The airstrikes hit the Al Dailami Base in Al Hudaydah, as well as Sanaa Airport, leading to significant destruction and loss of life.

The international community has condemned the Israeli attacks on Yemen, calling for an immediate cessation of violence and a return to peace talks. The UN has reiterated its commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to those affected by the conflict and has called for the protection of civilians and essential infrastructure.

The situation in Yemen remains precarious, with ongoing violence and instability exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis. The UN’s efforts to bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict have been met with numerous obstacles, but the organization remains steadfast in its commitment to helping the people of Yemen in their time of need.
