Venice Film Festival features Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, and Beetlejuice as top stars • FRANCE 24 English

The 78th Venice Film Festival kicked off in style with an all-star lineup that included Hollywood heavyweights Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, and the stars of the iconic film “Beetlejuice”. As the stars descended upon the Lido for the opening night, film critic Emma Jones shared her insights on some of the most anticipated films of the Mostra.

One of the standout films is Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer”, which stars the dashing Daniel Craig. Another highly anticipated film is “Joker: Folie à Deux”, featuring the brilliant Joaquin Phoenix and the multi-talented Lady Gaga. Chilean director Pablo Larrain’s “Maria”, starring the ever-enigmatic Angelina Jolie, is also generating buzz at the festival.

In addition to these star-studded films, French cinema is also well-represented at the festival. The French film of the week, “Visiting Hours” directed by Patricia Mazuy, features a stellar cast including this year’s Venice jury president Isabelle Huppert, as well as actresses Hafsia Herzi and Zoe Kravitz. Kravitz, who is making her directorial debut with “Blink Twice”, stars her fiancé Channing Tatum in the film.
