President Trump has made it clear that he intends to crack down on so-called sanctuary cities as part of his aggressive stance on illegal immigration in the United States. This has sparked a heated debate and legal battle between the federal government and cities like Denver and San Francisco that have implemented policies to protect their immigrant populations.
Sanctuary cities, as explained in a recent video by the Wall Street Journal, are municipalities that limit their cooperation with federal immigration enforcement efforts. These cities often refuse to comply with requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain individuals for deportation, in an effort to foster trust between law enforcement and immigrant communities.
Critics of sanctuary cities argue that these policies create a safe haven for criminals and put public safety at risk. They believe that local authorities should prioritize working with federal agencies to enforce immigration laws and deport individuals who are in the country illegally.
However, many cities have pushed back against Trump’s mass deportation plans, with some local leaders even facing threats of legal action from top officials like border czar Tom Homan. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, for example, has been targeted for his opposition to the Trump administration’s immigration policies, with Homan warning that he could be jailed for his defiance.
The Wall Street Journal explores the legality and implications of Trump’s attempts to dismantle sanctuary cities entirely. The video delves into the inner workings of sanctuary city policies, the challenges they present, and the potential consequences of Trump’s crackdown on these municipalities.
As the debate rages on, it remains to be seen what the future holds for sanctuary cities and the immigrant communities they protect. The clash between federal and local authorities over immigration enforcement is likely to continue, with far-reaching implications for both policy and public safety in the United States.

I work in immigration law and no city or state can interfere with federal law or law enforcement. That being said they don't have to assist in immigration enforcement, neither can they aid or abet.
Why were people crossing the border leaving their passports at the border?
Because they want to create a new identity…
Because they entered the USA illegally…
If they were entering legally they would cross at a point of entry and they would need to have appropriate identification…
The Biden Administration said they needed Congress to pass legislation before they could stop the illegal border crossing…
Everyone knew that was a lie…
That’s why the Trump Administration secured the border…
The Executive Branch has the authority to secure the border…
So the question is, why was the Biden administration telling everyone they needed legislation to prevent people from entering without authorization, entering illegally…
And why was Alejandro Mayorkas, head of homeland security, saying the border is secure, when it was obviously not secure…
And why was did the Biden administration use FEMA tax dollars to pay for people who entered the nation illegally to stay at hotels, and receive debit cards, and mobile phones?
Why did the Biden administration want millions of people to enter the USA Illegally?
Why did the Biden Administration pay for migrants to be flown into airports at night?
Insurrection
why not just give jails in sanctuary cities money to cover the costs for detaining illegal immigrants arrested for violent crimes while ICE waits for Federal warrants? why should the state's taxpayers be on the hook to pay for Federal programs that rely on local resources to implement?
Dose the punishment fit the crime? Deportation as punishment for minor crime that are not life sentence or a minimum ( an arbitrary number) of 10 years in jail seems excessive and cruel.
Fighting for criminals is crazy. But yet you wont fight for your own people.
Theres a few different issues. First if DHS wants to hold people they should reimburse jurisdictions for cost of holding them. Next if they are worried about this its better to mandate things like E Verify and go after employers that knowingly are breaking the law. I don't get being mad at someone just trying to improve life for their family but not being mad at business owner exploiting them.
How are you transporting them and maintaining them?
All those maga comments are hilarious to read. A bunch of illiterate sheep repeating trump propaganda without any thoughts.
Strong resistance shown by sanctuary cities! 💪
Traitors
Trump should focus 90 percent of all Fed law enforcement resources on these sanctuary cities. Need to run ICE raids 24/7 every day until these cities change their laws.
❤🎉God bless America and president Trump
Cheers from lake Titicaca Peru ❤🎉😊
Send in the national guard
america rise up against this tyrant please save your country!
Go Denver love colorado love cali resist these are hard working people who would love to be citizens but they dont have 5 million for a gold card and our system for legal immigration is outdated and cant keep up.
Unleash the justice department upon these cities.
This SHOULD NOT be a FEDERAL PROGRAM, this IS THE RACIST DEEP STATE‼️
As someone who lives in Minneapolis Minnesota we are fine, the government allow to have driver license also if you are an immigrant you can have benefits, you only need to apply for the ITIN number and and declared taxes
An year back weren't the same democrats crying to stop those buses coming in from Texas and Florida?
I lived in SF, now in Huntsville creating a grassroot to turn the district blue (we had 5% increase of blue voters past election on one of the heavy gerrymandered districts). There is no data, outside of conservative think tanks that says illegal immigrants are a net fiscal drain. There’s a reason why Abbott doesn’t support E-Verify. Texas would collapse w/o illegal immigrants.
Sanctuary cities will detain and deport illegal aliens who have committed crimes. ICE, under Trump isn't even following the law. They will not necessarily show a bench warrant from a judge. Also they have arrested and deported legal immigrants.
The fact that “sanctuary cities” are the ones ICE is focusing on the most makes them the last place an illegal would want to be at beating the point of a sanctuary city
Happy to see my governor talking this way on here. Makes me happy to live in Denver 🎉.
The problem is they come here illegally. So that means they immediately do not respect the law of the country they are coming to. So they will flaunt the laws of all of the jurisdictions they live in ie. Local, State and Federal law. This creates a two class system where legal citizens follow the law of the land and those here illegally have their own set of laws.
Then stop sending them federal funds
People here are just ignoring why sanctuary cities came to be in the first place. Law enforcement officers back in the 80s and 90s couldn't get any information on crimes committed by people in these primarily immigrant neighborhoods, because the immigrants were afraid of potential deportation. It was originally law enforcement that requested sanctuary status for immigrants, as that meant they could interview and ask for information from immigrants who were no longer afraid to speak to the police. It did not mean they would block ICE from doing their jobs. It solely meant that local law enforcement made their goal to enforce local laws, not federal laws, and this has been effective in reducing crime in sanctuary cities, especially property crimes and cases of domestic abuse. Sanctuary status was also a major reason why the crime wave of the 80s and 90s came to pass, as police were more effective in their jobs. This video made no attempt to give the actual context as to why sanctuary cities exist, and why they can be beneficial to the people living within the cities.
Propaganda
Obstruction and harboring illegals are federal felonies, these politicians must be arrested!
These mayor's have been referred to Pam Bondi to investigate, thank you rep Anna Paulina Luna !!
Undocumented immigrants have a much lower violent crime rate than US citizens. They are members of our community here in California and we love them.
All of these people complaining about them are losers and need to focus on their own issues.
Fight Fight Fight!
Not to worry, Trump is crashing the economy, so immigrants will be leaving of their own accord.
It's pretty funny how the pipeline of people goes from Mexico to New York to my state
New York they go to get their license, phone and their money. 😂 And then they come in work in the south. It's the new underground railroad.
Utah, North Dakota, and some counties in Nebraska? But those are heavily red areas. I thought sanctuary cities didn't exist in conservative states like that.
It's just a ploy to flex perceived muscles by the administration. dump has an impossibly fragile ego so he NEEDS big numbers, innocent lives be damned. And since he surrounded himself by yes-men, what baby wants, baby gets. Or else temper tantrum and further unconstitutional action.
How is it even legal for cities to have these policies? Defending non-citizens? Like…. why?
