I'm always amazed that, no matter how long a tradition has been in place, some people ALWAYS want to change/abolish them. People need to look at wHY the tradition started.
Most "Sexist" traditions started to PROTECT women from situations that men faced on a daily basis. Today women seem to believe that they are Equal to men on all levels. However, not too many women want to be front-line soldiers during a war, and this is where these 'Sexist' traditions started.

It involves a lot of toil, and the always present risk of a fall that can injure/maim/kill a climber (I'm not familiar with the mountain mentioned, but most mountain climbs have dangerous parts). So these traditions are still designed to protect women from danger, no matter what the preached reasons are (everybody needs to be made to feel 'special' it seems).
