Definitely taking your advice since I will be visiting New York City very soon.
NYC always pay for your convenience
I find it interesting that you recommend Canal St. For souvenir shopping. I generally avoid that area unless i am looking for knock-off purses. Back in the day, they would try to get people into vans to go to sketchy warehouses for counterfit goods. Not sure if that's still a thing.
I’m a fan of the M60 to N train for the elevator.. & the air train to JFK and LIIRR.
The subway isn’t that bad but it could be safer but you need to have head on swivel and not on the phone ..
There is nothing better than getting an egg sandwich and people watching along with a slice or dog
Great advice Jon ❤. The public transport issues are challenging if you can’t walk very well. One underestimated way is to use buses if you can get up onto it. I know it’s slower sometimes, but you do get to see a lot of the local sights you’d miss otherwise. The hop on/hop off bus is great too if you can’t use the subway, I used it to move from one end of Manhattan to the other, hopping in and off as needed. Keep up the great work ❤❤❤
Me and my family returned a week ago from seven day trip to NY. Thanks to your tips the journy was pleasant and not really expensive. We ordered one Broadway show a months ago, just to be sure we're having a good seats. Next day we saw a second show, but this time we bought tickets from the theater box office on the show day for $50. The seats were meh, as we expected, and half of the stage was blocked, but we could switch seats after break and enjoyed the rest. What was disappointing are food carts. The food was not inviting, and the most of all their generators are annoying. They mostly generate pollution as of the air as of the sound. The noise is unbearable. But the rest of the trip was pure fun. Thanks again
Very good tips here. Cheers, Jon!
I took a yellow cab from JFK to Time Square, the driver could tell that we were out of towners.
Our bill came to 62 dollars and i gave a 100 note and instead of giving me all the change she says how much i need back, this took by surprise and i said all of it.
Are you as a tourist obligated to give an additional tip, when you see there is already tip momey added to my bill? Me personally, I would say no. I already tip, I'm not gonna double tip. Sorry
Me and my wife and 3 kids just went to NY last month. Let me say your videos are extremely informative and helpful. I was so nervous going. But had an amazing experience. We didn’t get to do everything we wanted to but are planning on coming back. Had some great pizza. Go to Billy’s box dog cart let me just say best dog I have ever had. If your going to New York highly recommend this guys videos. Thank you for your content!!!!
Buying a Jewish sandwich.. 😂 vomit.
Even the MTA bus routes that arent free at LGA are also great options because you get a free transfer with tap to pay or a metrocard swipe at at subway station
Showing up at the Box office will get you a face value ticket. But you are subject to what is available. Also depending on the theater if they use dynamic pricing you might also pay a ton of money more if its close to being a sellout but you also may get a massive steal. The risk you take showing up at the theater to buy tickets can be mitigated by checking the box office website which is usually ran by telecharge or ticketmaster. Buying online means you will pay fees. But if you buy tickets from a trusted secondary market site like stubhub or seatgeek you can sometimes find resold tickets below face value.
Lifelong NYC resident here. I have to disagree with you about staying away from the horse carriages. And seriously: riding through Central Park on a pedicab? It’s more of an experience to rent and actually ride a bike around Central Park yourself. (The fact that the last few winters have been mild is not comforting.)
lyfts & uber are only worth it if it evens out to $3 per person in the car
Am I expected to tip door staff whenever i enter/leave somewhere?
Great videos as always helpful ,these videos were massive help for our first trip we’ve already booked to go again ,we would highly recommend using Frankie legs for a tour round Central Park great guy ,and using the subway is a must for anyone wanting to get around nyc quick just be vigilant and plan where you want to go for a couple from the uk ,NYC can be daunting but you’ll be surprised where you can save money from these tips ..keep the videos coming we love seeing and learning of new places we could go to 👍👍👍
Thanks for the great video, Jon! Serious question – when you go to Katz, can you ask them them to put a half portion of pastrami on your sandwich? (Still offering to pay full price of course). Or will they be offended? Or will it upset their carving system? It's not so much the price, I just don't want to waste so much food, as one sandwich looks like it will be way too big for me.
