Having been to Laos several times I can attest to the quality and taste of Beer Lao. It's without a doubt the best domestically brewed commercial beer I have ever drank and they even make an IPA thats superb as well as a dark and a "white". I ran across some young men from Oklahoma in Vientiane and they exclaimed "it's the best beer in the world"!
As far as the Jars go, the lids have a one hand purchase on them similar to your average kitchen canister. I've seen two types. One is a 3-4 donut ring looking arrangement with the rings decreasing in diameter as they ascend. The other is a long horizontal type. These are the only purchase points on the 300-400 pound (136-186kg) lids/covers. They're made for a one handed lift so I can't imagine anything other than the giant theory being true.
As far as the coffee in a bag goes, just like in Vietnam once they're empty they're just discarded any and everywhere including alongside the roads from moving vehicles and motorbikes. SMH
