18 people killed in plane crash in Nepal

A tragic plane crash in Nepal has left 18 passengers and crew members dead, with the pilot being the sole survivor. The aircraft, operated by Saurya Airlines, was attempting to depart Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu when it failed to gain altitude, causing it to veer off the runway and crash in a nearby field where it burst into flames.

Images from the scene showed the plane had only risen a few meters off the ground before the crash. Firefighters and police arrived quickly to the site, where thick black smoke filled the sky. Despite the intense heat and flames, they were able to rescue the pilot from the wreckage and he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, although the extent of his injuries is currently unknown.

The flight was headed to Pokhara, a popular tourist destination known as the gateway to the Annapurna circuit, a famous hiking trail in the Himalayas. In total, there were two crew members and 17 airline staff on board at the time of the crash, according to a Nepali police spokesman.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that come with air travel, especially in challenging mountainous terrain like that of Nepal. Our thoughts go out to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this devastating crash.
