Seaweed Forecast for the Caribbean in 2024
A new record-size bloom of sargassum seaweed threatens to impact Florida and the Caribbean in 2024. Researchers at the University of South Florida Optical Oceanography Lab have noted a significant increase in the sargassum amount, reaching five million metric tons by December from one million in November. The bloom, which has grown in size and impact over the past decade, is expected to cause problems along Florida’s coast and in the travel and tourism sector.

Playa Porto Mari, a private beach on Curacao’s west coast, charges an entrance fee (visit the Porto Mari website for hours and prices), but the cost also includes access to several amenities.
Morne Rouge Beach on Grenada
On the island of Grenada, there is a stunning, seaweed-free coastline with crystal-clear waters. Although it is less known than Grand Anse Beach and also known as BBC Beach, Morne Rouge is hardly affected by Sargassum algae.
