Keith Urban Shares 5 Things You Didn’t Know About New Song “Straight Line” | Billboard
Keith Urban recently revealed five interesting facts about his new song “Straight Line” in a video for Billboard. The song was originally recorded with only a drum machine and no real drums, but Urban and his team decided to add real drums, which completely transformed the sound of the song. The decision to include real drums added a new dimension to the track, showcasing the importance of live instrumentation.
The song’s title, “Straight Line,” came about during a writing session when one of the other writers was singing “late night lover,” which Urban misheard as “straight line lover.” Intrigued by the concept, they decided to explore what a “straight line lover” would mean, ultimately leading to the creation of the song.
Urban co-wrote the song with his bass player Jerry flowers, Chase Mcgill, and producer Greg Wells. Despite never having written together before, the group came up with two songs in just two days, with both tracks making it onto Urban’s upcoming album.
Urban’s bass player Jerry Flowers also contributed a unique sound to the song, playing a mini 12-string guitar that sounded like a mandolin riff at the beginning of the track. The recording process for “Straight Line” involved multiple vocal takes in both Nashville and California until Urban was satisfied with the final result.
Overall, “Straight Line” showcases the collaborative effort and creativity that went into its creation, highlighting the attention to detail and dedication Urban and his team put into making the song a standout track on his upcoming album.
