I usually keep an eye on it and swim closer or further from the shore depending how close people are approaching my stuff. I can sprint pretty well, so I am relying on the active security instead of passive by hiding my bag.
🏖😮
Gabriel,I wish you and me as few similar situations as possible. Just watching from afar, from the water,at my things disappearing at the same time as the thief, would be the only thing that would help me despair.😊Caution is never left, thank you very much for the defense tips.Good luck then!🍀🍀👍
Box jellyfish sting treatment = vinegar and heat.
I guess if someone stole your passport and money, it could be a disaster. How would you deal with that? Do you normally have some kind of theft insurance as this can happen anywhere.
😁👍
💖💖💖
👍👍👍
final rule. Do your money and passportthings before you go to the beach. Deosit them on the hotel, unless you are two or more, swim joyfully away.
Thanks for your calm incites on stuff traveling. I remember snorkeling in crystal clear water and went under water 3 feet below and laid on my back essentially looking up…eyes and a school of blue 3” fish swam by blocking the Sunshine on the water’s surface.
Rock on Gabriel! Cheers
How about ask the girl if they can watch the stuff for 10 minutes.
you could always ask some trustworthy looking people, already sitting on the beach, if they wouldn't mind keeping an eye on your stuff while you go for a swim
If you use an equalizer to cut the bass in this video it might be much easier to understand you
The only other thing I would suggest is putting an Apple air tag hidden in the bag (like I do for suitcases).
That way In the worst case scenario you should be able to track your belongings down to the exact inch
Looks like you're having a great time 🙂 Curious, would you ever consider doing a live steam with Q&A's? Would love to participate in that! Thanks for taking us along with you all of these years!
Sorry Gabe, taking your passport to the beach is absolutely nuts.
Problem with Common Sense is, it's NOT Common. Some of the content lately has been extremely dull.
In the United States, you can order an extra passport. I think it’s only $100 more so you can have two passports one in the room one on your person. I always travel with two wallets one I keep in the safe in the room one with me separate credit cards attached to different banks in each wallet and cash in both. You can add a cheap phone or your old phone to your already existing cell phone line again one at the hotel one on your person. So just for a little bit of money, you could have a lot of piece of mind.
Good tips. On my last trip to the Philippines, and in regards to day tours on boats, I brought with me a good quality slash proof dry bag with a combo lock, so unless someone brings wire cutters along to the day tour, my stuff was safe and each time we stopped by a spot to swim, I would lock the bag to one of the wooden chairs or railings, no issue. At the beach, I do similar to what you did. Now for the hardest bit – What do you leave in your room? First, I stay in decent hotels say about AUD 50 per night at least, I leave some backup cash and card locked in my bag and bag locked to a immovable object in the room. No issues. What about you? what do you leave in the room and how do you secure it? Do you trust their room safes? I wouldn't as staff could have an override code.
also get a air tag or something similar so you can track it down
Who goes to a beach alone in the first place? Well, alone travellers of course, but being a traveller myself I haven't been on a beach in 25 years. But that's me.
What about AirTags?
Wouldn't it make more sense to leave laptop in the room, and edit videos when you return to the accommodation, and also you'd have less distractions to concentrate on work there?
Keeping valuables together like this is an invitation for trouble. I would never leave my wallet, passport, phone, and laptop together at the beach — or even at the same location, even hotel rooms or safes aren’t entirely secure. Keeping an eye on your stuff from out in the water is practically useless.
I spread my valuables across different bags, clothing items, and pockets, both in my room and on me – especially my credit cards are never together in one place. When swimming, I use a waterproof pouch or container to keep essentials with me in the water. I also plan my activities to avoid carrying everything at once—for example, I would separate swimming, renting a motorbike, and working at a café into different outings – security beats convenience.
I do number 5! Good one. I put my wallet and room key in a plastic bag and bury it in the sand.
👍👍👍
Got a pair of flip flops and a pair of Nikes stolen off the beach in the Dominican Republic once.
Ended up flying back to Chicago in January wearing my “backup” pair of flip flops😂
Frozen feet while waiting for a taxi ride home.
What can you do?
Thanks
Gabe – I was actually shocked that you would ever bring all your most valuables to the beach and leave them unattended for any reason or amount of time. You violated your video rule 1 totally here. If you truly needed all your valuables with you on this day, then you should have postponed your swim to a time when you didn't. Risk versus reward: the devastating theft of all of your most important trip possessions against a mere swim. I've traveled all over the world for 40 years and would never bring and leave all this stuff on the beach to go into the water.
Pro tip:
Bury your treasure
Thank You Gabriel some Great Information🙂💙👍
I still like the Greek beach you spent alone. It’s annoying that you have to pay to enter this beach.
Nothing you do at the beach will stop me from stealing your stuff bruh 😆
Hi Gabriel, these are excellent tips for traveling anywhere. I would also include pickpockets on crowded trains and buses. A good suggestion is to bring your car and leave your valuables in it and out of sight. Always keep your possessions in front of you and watch for prying eyes.
The best tip: Find some people who look nice and ask them if they can keep an eye on your stuff while you go swimming. They will be way more more focused on watching over your stuff if they have agreed to be responsible for it, plus it's a great way to make new friends!
It’s my birthday and also Day 1 of asking Gabe to hang out with me!
Get a watch with nfc chip. Then bring only small change
best tip is to not take anything worth stealing.
we pray to God no would-be thief is watching this Gabe 🙄
Water looks nice 😎☀️🌊
Just ask the Dutch girls. Just ask in Dutch: Mag ik mijn rugzak bij jullie neerleggen?
Good to know. Now everybody knows. 🤨
I have some false US dollars in a front pocket in the backpack funtioning like a trap, so that if the thive strikes, then he will be caught exhanging false money and arrested that way 😎
You can find waterproof bags to put wallets with passports and cell. When I travel alone at a beach destination, I go and swim with those valuables in such waterproof bags. It removes all the stress.
I hate to be a pedant (and I know this came up a few years ago), but your title is clickbait. You're not talking about robbery, you're talking about theft. Robbery involves the use of force or the threat of force, such as if someone pulls a gun or knife on you. What you mean is, "7 Tips to Avoid Getting Your Stuff Stolen on the Beach."
Intros are a 10 year old youtube trend that makes more people stop watching sooner. Just start your video. Or create some type of hook. I dont need to sit there and wait for 1 minute in order to watch a video. Especially if its every single time
There are small padlock-sized alarms that get triggered by motion, idea is that a thief will drop the bag as soon as the alarm goes off.
