Along with watching the biggest football game of the year, witnessing the halftime show in person and snagging the coolest merchandise, a large part of the fun of attending a Super Bowl is the atmosphere. Not only are Super Bowl attendees surrounded by fellow diehards rooting on their favorite team (as well as some of the biggest celebrities on the planet), but they get to soak in a once-in-a-lifetime experience, often in a wonderful city. Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans was no different, and at the Caesars Superdome on Sunday night (Feb. 9), the local flavor made its impact on the music inside the stadium, with plenty of tributes, sing-alongs and singular moments for football fans.
Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show was met with loud cheers, as was Jon Batiste’s rendition of the national anthem — but some of the coolest music moments within the Superdome never made it to air. Those who showed up early on game day got to walk around the stadium as music echoed throughout the dome, and as the game got underway — and the Philadelphia Eagles began to dominate the Kansas City Chiefs — Philly fans were given plenty of sing-along fodder during commercial breaks. Who could have expected a song originally from the early ’60s to earn more full-throated singing than some of Lamar’s halftime hits?
If you were watching on TV, however, you might have missed some of the fun being had in the Big Easy. Below are a handful of memorable in-stadium music moments from Super Bowl LIX.
