The concrete jungle of Sao Paulo is being transformed into a green oasis by one man’s incredible dedication. Brazilian Helio da Silva, a former food industry executive, has taken it upon himself to plant around 40,000 trees in the bustling city over the course of just 20 years.
Initially dismissed as “crazy” for his ambitious goal, da Silva has proved his critics wrong by creating the stunning Tiquatira Park. What was once a hangout for drug users between two busy avenues is now a lush sanctuary with thousands of trees spanning 3.2 kilometers long and 100 meters wide. The park boasts an impressive variety of 160 tree species, adding a vibrant burst of color to the urban landscape.
Da Silva’s passion for environmental conservation has not only beautified Sao Paulo, but also provided a much-needed respite from the chaotic city life. His relentless efforts serve as a reminder of the impact that individuals can make in transforming their surroundings for the better. In a world where green spaces are increasingly rare, da Silva’s work stands as a shining example of what can be achieved through determination and perseverance.

Excellent work! Amazing 🌳🌴🌳
That’s sooo inspiring!!! This man deserves more land!
Wow, he's a beautiful human being. Well done! Apparently, it just takes one to make a difference. Beautiful.
Great man. Impressive. Imagine the difference humanity could make if just one man achieved this? Maybe there is yet hope for the future yet?
They need to install bioswales for more even regreening.
Bioswales are depressed planting areas made for collecting and then quickly absorbing rainwater. Bioswales manage excess stormwater while adding beauty and reducing infrastructure costs. The water is absorbed before mosquito larvae can hatch. It supports plant life, biome appropriate plants are best. Bioswales recharge the aquifer; reduce pollution. Walkability and bikeability are increased while crime is reduced.
The Power of One❤
Bravo.
Helps cut the City Heat Dome effect caused by all the concrete and asphalt holding the Heat
Well done – what an amazing achievement! I know how hard this is – we planted up our piece of land although I found that I quickly had help from Mother Nature as the surrounding trees generated more trees – but it's very hard to start with and even more so I imagine in an urban area.
good man.
He deserves a Nobel Prize.
👍🙏. Good work…
It only takes one person to make a change.
