The aftermath of Hurricane Helene has left a trail of destruction across the southeastern United States, with the death toll rising to over 100 people in six states. Emergency responders in western North Carolina are working tirelessly to reach those who remain unaccounted for, as the storm has wiped out communications and left millions without power.
The devastation caused by Hurricane Helene has underscored the urgent need for climate action, according to climate health advocate Henna Hundal. Hundal, a three-time delegate to the UN Climate Conference, emphasizes the importance of addressing the root causes of extreme weather events like hurricanes.
As supplies are rushed to isolated communities and search and rescue efforts continue, the impact of Hurricane Helene serves as a stark reminder of the importance of disaster preparedness and climate resilience. The widespread destruction and loss of life highlight the need for increased investment in infrastructure and emergency response capabilities to better protect vulnerable communities in the face of future storms.

On a lighter note, it couldve been lots worse so I guess be thankful.
It's impossible to prepare for the unimaginable. Bridges & roads washed away throughout the mountains, How do you prepare for that level of destruction? All of the rivers & creeks became weaponized in a matter of hours. 23" of rain funneling down into the valleys. Communication and electricity were/are down for hundreds of miles in all directions. Many communities were/are completely cut off from each other.
Imagine disasters like this 4 times a year. That's what the future brings as the world refuses to deal with the climate crisis
While my deeply condolences to the families who lost their near and dear one and hope and pray for quick salvage for the human life at the same time I would like to people of USA and Western countries to consider the human life lost and suffering of Palestinian and Lebnon people and damage of infrastructure and bombing of hospitals and UN shelters and hurdles in humanitarian aid by Israel and your country actually helping Israel by Economic and Military aids to them …
No matter how rich or poor a country is, there can be no price on even one life lost. How can families recover from over 100 deaths? You can't restore that.
Climate change is here. We have been warned.
