With the US presidential election heating up, the use of AI-generated content and deepfakes is becoming a major concern in the race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. From coast to coast, individuals are able to create and spread images and videos of their chosen candidate, manipulating the narrative in any way they see fit.
Experts warn that social media platforms like Meta and X are not doing enough to combat the spread of misinformation, allowing these deceptive tactics to sway public opinion. As the battle for the White House intensifies, the influence of AI and deepfakes looms large over the political landscape.
In a special report by our France 2 colleagues, FRANCE 24’s Lauren Bain delves into the impact of these technologies on the election cycle and the potential consequences for democracy. As the race remains too close to call, the role of AI-generated content in shaping public perception has never been more apparent.
As voters navigate through a sea of information online, the need for vigilance and critical thinking is crucial in order to separate fact from fiction. The future of American democracy may very well depend on our ability to discern truth from manipulation in the digital age.

I think the potential for fake on the internet is what will ultimately save us from the internet. If it's fake it can't be prosecuted and is essentially meaningless over time. The potential to be a fake should be broadcast day and night all over this world so the accursed thing can't keep starting all these wars.
If I've said this once I've said it a hundred times – the internet must die and CGI may have just relegated the whole thing to cartoon land. Thank God for small favors. Adios internet. Get back in your lamp and never come out again.
