First Chief Executive Born in Mainland China Elected in Macau, Casino Hub

Macau, the renowned gambling hub of the world, has made history by electing its first chief executive born in mainland China. With only one candidate standing for election, Sam Hou Fai was officially approved by the Election Committee to lead the city for the next five years.

Born in Guangdong province in 1967, Sam Hou Fai has a background in law and has served as a member of the Legislative Assembly in Macau. Prior to his election as chief executive, he held the position of Secretary for Administration and Justice in the Macau government.

The election of Sam Hou Fai marks a significant shift in Macau’s political landscape, as the city has traditionally been led by candidates with strong ties to Macau and Portugal. His appointment reflects the growing influence of mainland China in the region, as well as the increasing integration of Macau with the rest of the country.

In his inaugural speech, Sam Hou Fai expressed his commitment to upholding the principles of “one country, two systems” and to continuing the development and prosperity of Macau. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining the city’s reputation as a world-class gambling destination while promoting sustainable growth and social harmony.

As Macau enters a new era under the leadership of Sam Hou Fai, all eyes will be on how he navigates the challenges and opportunities facing the city in the years ahead.
