In the aftermath of a devastating storm, the last thing homeowners want to worry about is being underpaid for their flood insurance claims. Unfortunately, in 2015, investigative journalist Sharyn Alfonsi brought to light shocking allegations that thousands of homeowners were not receiving the full compensation they were entitled to.
In this eye-opening episode of 60 Minutes Archive titled “The Storm after the Storm: Underpaid flood insurance claims,” Alfonsi delves into the murky world of insurance companies and their practices when it comes to handling flood claims. Through interviews with homeowners and experts in the field, she uncovers the hardships faced by those who were left struggling to rebuild their lives after a natural disaster.
The video sheds light on the importance of holding insurance companies accountable and ensuring that policyholders are treated fairly and receive the support they need during times of crisis. It serves as a reminder of the power of investigative journalism to expose wrongdoing and advocate for those who have been wronged.
As we continue to face the growing threat of extreme weather events, it is more crucial than ever to ensure that homeowners are adequately protected and that their claims are handled with transparency and integrity. “The Storm after the Storm: Underpaid flood insurance claims” is a must-watch for anyone looking to understand the challenges faced by those affected by natural disasters and the importance of fighting for justice and fair treatment in insurance claims.

Insurance companies are a business that operates for a profit and not necessarily for the benefit of their customers

In China, the executive of that company would receive the death penalty. In the US, he'll get a position to advise the president.
If u live next to costal that's bound to Happen…
Literally just fixing some water damage (not storm related, from broken fitting in bathroom) out of pocket because the $500 and 3 days labor is better than risking my cheap policy cancelling on me. I went through dozens of quotes, the first insurance carrier I got dropped me after an inspection, managed to get a cheaper one that never did an inspection. Filing a claim in the long run only hurts you nowadays, insurance protects lenders not homeowners 😅
Sad
So sad
Proving once again insurance is a scam
Does anybody me else think this guy sounded a little bit off when he said FEMA didn’t say keep the claims down
But the government will not bring these criminals to court but will bring trump

How can you sleep at night? How can you buy another mansion or private jet with the money that should have went to people to rebuild their lives.

I wonder if the claims were legit in these situations if it would bankrupt the insurance companies or is it all about greed. Could they not be charging to little to homeowners not calculating these massive claims?
