Israel Targets UN Peacekeepers in Southern Lebanon amidst Conflict with Hezbollah • FRANCE 24

UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon are finding themselves in the crosshairs of Israel’s escalating conflict with Hezbollah, as tensions rise in the region. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that Israeli tanks forcibly entered one of its positions on Sunday, prompting international criticism.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has demanded that UN peacekeepers leave the area, as Israeli forces have repeatedly fired on them since the beginning of their ground operation in Lebanon. Five peacekeepers have been wounded in recent attacks that struck their positions, with most of the blame being placed on Israeli forces.

The situation in southern Lebanon is becoming increasingly volatile, with UN peacekeepers caught in the middle of a conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. International outrage is growing as the safety and security of peacekeepers are compromised in the midst of the escalating tensions.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the international community will respond to the targeting of UN peacekeepers in the region. With tensions at an all-time high, the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict is more pressing than ever.
