‘No Woman’s Land’: Exhibition in Paris Shines a Light on Afghan Women During Taliban Rule • FRANCE 24 English

The Paris exhibition “No Woman’s Land” is shedding light on the plight of Afghan women and girls living under Taliban rule, offering a powerful glimpse into their private lives and struggles. The photographs, taken by Iranian-Canadian photographer Kiana Hayeri, capture moments of despair, resilience, and rare instances of joy amidst the oppressive conditions faced by these women.

One striking image shows 14-year-old Muska, dressed in a pink hijab, who is soon to be married off in exchange for a well and some solar panels. This heartbreaking reality reflects the harsh and unequal treatment of women in Afghanistan, where they are often forced into early marriages and denied basic rights and freedoms.

Hayeri, who lived in Kabul for seven years, brings a unique perspective to her work, having witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by Afghan women. Through her photographs, she seeks to give a voice to those who are often silenced and overlooked in society.

The exhibition serves as a reminder of the importance of standing in solidarity with Afghan women and advocating for their rights, particularly in the face of ongoing discrimination and violence perpetuated by the Taliban. As the international community continues to grapple with the implications of the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, “No Woman’s Land” offers a poignant and powerful reflection on the resilience and strength of Afghan women in the face of adversity.
