India is taking significant steps to counter China’s growing naval presence in the Bay of Bengal with the construction of a new nuclear submarine base called INS Varsha. The Bay of Bengal serves as a critical shipping lane and has become a point of strategic interest for both India and China.
A recent video by the Wall Street Journal highlights how satellite images have revealed the expansion of INS Varsha, showcasing India’s efforts to enhance its naval capabilities in the region. With China’s increasing presence in the bay, including the deployment of submarines, India’s new base is a crucial component of its strategy to keep Beijing’s ambitions in check.
The construction of INS Varsha is part of New Delhi’s larger plan to strengthen its maritime security and safeguard its interests in the Bay of Bengal. India’s nuclear submarines, which will be stationed at the base, play a significant role in bolstering the country’s naval capabilities and deterring potential threats in the region.
As tensions between India and China continue to simmer, the development of INS Varsha reflects India’s proactive approach to safeguarding its maritime interests and countering China’s expanding naval footprint. By strategically positioning itself in the Bay of Bengal, India is sending a clear message to China that it will not allow its backyard to be dominated.
Overall, the construction of INS Varsha represents a significant milestone in India’s efforts to challenge China’s naval plans in the region. As both countries vie for influence in the Bay of Bengal, the emergence of this new nuclear submarine base underscores the complex strategic dynamics at play in the Indo-Pacific region.

If china is the Big Daddy of Asia then India is the Dark Horse of Asia .
CCP bots incoming 😒. Anyways, this was supposed to be a secret base but it will house new S5 class nuclear powered ballistic submarine with a displacement of 13000 tonnes and equipped with K6 and K7 SLBM which will be MIRV capable 8000 km to 12000 km missiles.
All things considered, China may have a material superiority over India for only about 50 years max. We will catch-up and surpass China, we will never be subordinate to China. India is staying out of conflicts and focusing on building it's economy and that's the right thing to do for a few more decades.
India No1
In China, heart surgeon number 4.
India needs to get out of BRICS.
India cannot pretend to be our ally while actively working against us by participating in BRICS.
India is only showing itself to be a backstabber to everyone by doing this 💪🏿🇺🇲
Except India and China are now friends
pjeet bots incoming!!
Great
Fake news we dont have any nuclear submarine or any base it's American propaganda to make us fight against china
I would want my indian people to not boost we have to grow continuously without any war for 30 years both china and India are ancient civilizations currently active so. We need to co operate and solve our border situation by peaceful negotiation
Actually that base is way closer to many Americans’ military bases than Chinese. India is also surrounded by Us bases like China.
As a Bangladeshi, I say never trust india.
The Chinese lack the eight-plus decades of institutional memory operating a global blue-water carrier navy that the United States Navy possesses, and they've got decades to go before they can catch up. In a conflict the very first thing the USN will do is block shipping through Malacca and Lombok, to choke off China's petroleum imports. That's why they've been using excess steel manufacturing capacity and labor to build huge storage facilities. But they may not actually have as much interest in Taiwan as they do in the territories taken during the Century of Humiliation and after WWII by Russia, and their focus on Taiwan may just be a feint intended to lull Russia into continuing to dissipate their combat power in Ukraine believing their eastern border is secure. The Chinese are definitely playing the "long game", and they're probably going to win it.
I am tired of this kind of news. Just ship the goods and make goods affordable either make it cheaper or ship it cheaper. And stop cost-rising tariff please. Please stop sending me this kind of news everyday.
US has $800 billion military spending. Plus another $800 billion from allies. Plus hundreds of bases around the world. China has $100 billion military spending. 1/20 spending… big money talk.
Please make living livable and affordable. Need to put foods on the table

American media always create the story and the enemy, while there is no plans for it
I'm shocked at the comments of people not realizing that it is China's interests to see India economic and even military influence rise in the region. It's in their strategic interests that India a country that will always consider itself independent and will never formerly join an alliance rises to their level and challenge the US who wants to dominate the world until the end of times. The dynamics is very simple, the world order is dominated by the west, The US is the leader in the west thus is the leader of the world order, the rise of China mechanically reduced the US influence in global affairs as its economic, military and technological influence rose If another nation like India that considers itself non-aligned and refuses to join western alliance's rises, the same mechanically movement will occur and the US influence will automatically decline further in the world and true multipolarism will be created. It is the reason why the Chinese are not acting with India the same way they're acting with the philippines or Japan, they did everything to stabilize the border and stabilize the relationship because they ultimately believe that India's rise is in their strategic interests in order to weaken the US global influence further. Their ambassador even said it in a forum of the Asia society this year.
From the description that China is worried about its trade through Malacca strait being choked off by adversaries, it looks like China's expanding influence in the Indian ocean is more defensive than aggressive. If China's increasing presence in the Indian ocean is a threat to India, then US's military presence all around China poses a threat 10 times greater to China. One cannot deem one as a threat and the other as benign. Once one filters out the media bias, then one sees that the fundamental problem is the security competition between great powers that traps them in the security dilemma, not because one country is bad and the other is good. The question is how to manage such security competitions to prevent it from spiraling out of control like the war in Ukraine. Actions that seek to intensify the security competition so that one side wins over another is extremely dangerous and need to be called out.
India is too small a power today to pose any sort of challenge to China. Maybe that will change in the future but I doubt it.
Chilla chilla ke sabko sceme badade
India’s strategic asset in countering China’s naval presence is not in mainland India. It’s in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It has a Naval base and an Air Force base operated by the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. There’s also an Indian Coast Guard station in the region that regularly patrols the Bay of Bengal.
I'm here before the CIA cry bots come here to cry 😂
So for past few years, wsj demonises china….then demonises modi and when there is rapproachement between india and china, try to spark india china issues. How shameless the american media can be?
As an Indian, we know how the Chinese operates and we can handle it…The more challenging task is to handle the US empire as they are treacherous and mercurial and can turn on anyone whenever they please to(including their Allies, Japan economy stumbled just when they were about to cross the US in the 90s..coincidence, I think not, the Nord stream pipeline cut, US hand is an open secret even though it hurt the Europeans more than the Russians)..So, yeah these are not just for China, but for the US too in case they decide to get too close and too personal.
Another useless conflict 😔
Basically a bunch of american trying to provoke india and china. Dont be so obvious uncle sam….
how wsj has got satellite images from military of america and also shared with china
