During a press conference in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on Friday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made it clear that there is “no question” in his mind that U.S. President Donald Trump intends to follow through on his threat to impose tariffs on Canadian imports. This statement comes amid escalating tensions between the two countries over trade policies. Trudeau expressed concern over the potential impact of these tariffs on the Canadian economy and emphasized the importance of finding a resolution to the ongoing trade dispute.
Trudeau’s remarks reflect the growing sense of uncertainty and unease in Canada as the prospect of a trade war with the United States looms large. The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to protecting Canadian interests and ensuring that the country’s economy remains resilient in the face of external threats. He emphasized the need for dialogue and cooperation between the two nations to avoid further escalation and potential harm to both economies.
The imposition of tariffs by the Trump administration has raised concerns among Canadian businesses and industry leaders, who fear the negative consequences that such measures could have on their operations. Trudeau’s acknowledgment of Trump’s intention to proceed with these tariffs underscores the seriousness of the situation and the need for swift action to address the underlying issues.
As tensions continue to escalate between the United States and Canada, Trudeau’s statement serves as a reminder of the importance of diplomacy and communication in resolving disputes and maintaining economic stability. The Prime Minister’s firm stance on defending Canadian interests in the face of external threats reflects his commitment to safeguarding the country’s economic prosperity and ensuring a strong future for all Canadians.

Trudeau on his way to meet Trump in Florida. I sure wish we had Pierre P who is financially literate, meeting with Tump. Trump hates the WEF Paris Climate Accord, Trudeau embraces all of this crap.
TURDO ran to TRUMP with his tail between his legs. Special report on the news. A little detour to Charlottetown interesting to find out how much this grovelling trip is going to cost us.
Does this guy ever say anything that has actual substance. Just verbal diarrhea. Talks and talks and says nothing ever. The Kamala of the North but worse.
We Canadians need a lider with a pair
Well Justin, probably shouldn't have talked all that smack about trump in 2020
Trudeau, yes, master. Let me kiss you wherever. 😂😂😂😂
These tariffs are 100% because of Trudeau's poor leadership in securing our Swiss Cheese border. Gawd, Trudeau is going down to negotiate? He's going to F this up so bad…
Trudeau flies to see Trump. Why did no one say if he was invited, or just hoping for a photo op?
Maybe Melania & Trudeau can go off in the sunset together😂
😂😂😂😂
Yawn..
Don't cry!!!
So then fix the boarder issue DUH
Canadians (esp. alberta) need to stop being Washington's vassal and diversify our trade portfolio. If they don't do business with us, then they don't mind if we lift sanctions on the rest of the world, which we carry the burden because of ally commitments that Drumpf don't seem to appreciate.
This guy is spooked! Let Trump impose the tax , so that he can be booted out ASAP.
Trudeau is actually the biggest threat to Canadians. Get him out!
We need to vote this guy out to save the country it's easy to see
Is he high? No if we do the sensible thing and do what Trump asks, then there won’t be tariffs. Quid pro quo Trudy. I really think he hates this country and wants the worst for us.
Trudoooo has been a scab on Canada for toooo long!
Justin, Trump is using this tactic so you finally act on your borders security. Will you? He is right you must act. Trump is leading Canada too now. A bit embarrassing….no? It takes someone to push you Justin. May be Trump will succeed. Have you seen the downtown eastside in Vancouver? Yes that is right the city were you lived for a while. Have you see what drugs we have in this city now and what it has done to many, worse over the past ten years. The drugs do not appear by magic in Vancouver. They must be carried into the country.
top priority: Trudeau has to go.
🐢 we are gunna make changes 🦥
He's got these "Leaders of Nations" so whipped they're running to see who can get to him first. Trudeau will offer to campaign for Republicans in 2026 if Trump wants him to. Hilarious 😂
Blah, blah, blah. I don’t hear you anymore.
Trudeau has my vote 💯
Trudy cant be reached for a few hours. He is shopping for his own presents at Lasenza
As an American, the best thing Justin can do for Canadians future is to resign immediately.
NEVER been a supporter of this man but this was a moment that he looked real and sincere. He is sweating for his job.
Wow — Global can pick some real winners, can't they, to comment on stories like this?
"No shred of evidence of a problem at the Canada border"? What do you want for evidence?
In 2023 there were 484 apprehensions from the terrorist watchlist (whom you might call "potential terrorists") at the Canadian border.
At the Mexico border during the same period? There were 80 encounters.
So 5 x as many known potential terrorists are caught crossing into the US from Canada than from Mexico.
Shut up about "we have to examine this issue in terms of Donald Trump's psyche" and "we need a crack Team Canada approach to negotiate with this madman" and …
… fix the d*** border. Just fix it. Tariffs go away.
We're governed by idiots, and idiots educate the public about their governance.
I’m not a big fan of liberals. But I commend Trudeau’s efforts in this case. Country first, politics second. 25% tariffs will be devastating for Canadian economy when 70% of business comes from United States. The Canadians who call for ignoring America are either ignorant or anti-Canada. So only option here is to work with Trump and his administration.
Do your job and there won't be tariffs!!
Mexican President put Trump in his place. But Trudeau looks like he's pooping his pants. Unbelievable.
We can’t be partners and allies because of you Trudeau!!! Get out of Canada….
I don't think an event for kids is a place to talk about that either…
No we can't , forget it
I wonder if Trump asked Justin what her preferred pronouns are.
Singh it is
Thank you America
This guy knows his days are numbered now. Thank you America! 🇺🇲🚂
TRUMP 💪 🇺🇸
lol sounds like you guys are realizing America ain’t no punk. Get in line
Work together????, not with you, not with you
Polvier Polvier Polvier!!! The REAL PM.
It makes sense for Trump to impose a tariff on Mexico due to illegal immigration and drunk trafficking.
But Canada…?
It makes more sense for the Canadians to build a wall on the US border, because unwanted things flow from south to north.
Let me know if I am missing anything.
Don’t let him bully you and us. I don’t give a damn what he does to Americans they voted for him , we didn’t
…down on your knees, hear the angels voices…
Sound like Trudeau is hanging on to his job 😂😂😂😂
He definitely wants Trudeau to show quick results like hundreds of pounds of seized fentanyl. Problem may be that not much is going to the US through Canada.
President-elect Trump did not say he will put a tariff on Canadian goods for sure. What he said was that he would impose a tariff if Canada did not take action on illegal immigrants and illegal drugs entering the U.S. from Canada. That is not the same as unilaterally imposing a tariff.
