India’s Gukesh Dommaraju has made history by becoming the youngest ever chess world champion, a title previously held by Russia’s Gary Kasparov. At just 18 years old, Gukesh won the final game in a 14-match series in Singapore, securing the championship thanks to a blunder by his Chinese opponent.
The young chess prodigy expressed that this victory was the best moment of his life, a sentiment shared by many in the chess community. Gukesh’s achievement marks a significant milestone in the world of chess, showcasing his tremendous skill and determination.
To gain further insight into this momentous occasion, DW News spoke to Judit Polgar, a Hungarian chess grandmaster and widely regarded as the greatest female chess player of all time. Judit shared her thoughts on Gukesh’s win and its impact on the chess world.
Additionally, DW News reached out to Dan Heisman, a chess master and renowned chess educator based in Pennsylvania, USA. Dan provided his perspective on Gukesh’s triumph and the implications it has for the future of chess.
Gukesh’s remarkable accomplishment serves as a source of inspiration for aspiring young chess players around the world, demonstrating that with dedication and perseverance, anything is possible in the world of chess. Chess itself was originated in INDIA.
GM Vishy Anand polished all the current generation of players..
Credit goes to him also….
Congratulations Gukesh💓
Congratulations to Gukesh and well played Ding. I love them both, very good human beings.
One more thing, I would like to add is Gukesh brought out the point that a personal mental coach has immense bearing on his match. Being a parent of an Indian national swimmer, we know what pressure they undergo. In swimming only elite teams have just one psychology coach for the whole team of more than a hundred, which is just not enough. If india could truly support sports with private sponsorship playing a great part, india will definitely make its presence globally.
Kudos Gukesh. Way to go Indians and India
The will of D 🎉🎉🎉
Spectacular India
To the anchor’s question “where are all the women?” – We have more important thighs to do- raising babies rather than playing with wooden horse
P.S it’s just a joke so please chill
Unfortunately all 3 world chess champions said that this year the quality of chess was the weakest they have seem : Kasparov , Kramnik , Carlsen . Not surprising as number 6 player was playing 23 ranked player in the world. Still Gukesh is a great player but he is long way away from World champion creative player
I want Fabi or Nepo to win the candidates and would love to see Gukesh beating Fabi or Nepo.
I loved the way GM Judit Polgar explained the whole thing about Gukesh.
Bobby Fischer of India
He is from a poor family. He also struggled to get food in indian slums. This should be dw story but surprising they didn't talk about it 😂
Germans are all suddenly acting sweet towards Indians. Why the sweet talk suddenly if i may ask? Oh i forgot, your chancellor needs indian workers for blue collar industry.
He is a nice person
Proud to be an Indian, congrats gukesh❤
OUR chess Queen
I can not believe DW saying something good about India
Where is your doctor guyes comeone i don't believe western news outlets are saying this
Congrats Gukesh…bringing the title back to the country that invented the game.
Such bad journalism. The report starts by horribly summarising the 14-match tournament by saying that Gukesh won thanks to a blunder by the Chinese opponent. They could have just said that Gukesh won after neck to neck fight, which is very true as both won 2 matches and the final game was drawn till the very last moment. The Chinese opponent's miscalculation also came as gukesh had a huge time advantage and the opponent desperately wanted to take the game to the tie breaks. Poor presentation and clear racism written all over the news.
Proud of you🎉
INDIA ❤❤❤
Congratulations to Gukki and the Indian fans 🇮🇳. You have the crown 👑 . Enjoy your victory. Greetings from the USA 🫡
