President-elect Donald Trump’s relationship with the Federal Reserve has been rocky at best, with his dissatisfaction towards Fed Chair Jay Powell being publicly known. In fact, Trump has gone as far as likening Powell to Chinese President Xi Jinping, showcasing his disapproval of Powell’s performance. However, the question remains: how much influence could Trump have over the Federal Reserve during his second presidency?
WSJ’s Nick Timiraos and former Fed Vice Chairman Richard Clarida delve into this complex issue, shedding light on the extent to which a Trump White House could exert control over the central bank. While it may seem that the President has the power to dismiss the Fed Chair, the legal authority to do so remains a gray area.
The relationship between Trump and the Fed has been fraught with tensions, with the President pushing for lower interest rates to boost the economy. However, the central bank operates independently to promote economic stability and growth, which may clash with Trump’s policies and preferences.
As Trump’s second presidency looms ahead, the future of the Federal Reserve remains uncertain. The influence of the President on the central bank’s decisions and policies will continue to be a topic of discussion, as the country navigates through economic challenges and uncertainties.
In conclusion, Trump’s second presidency could have significant implications for the Federal Reserve, as his interactions with the central bank remain complex and multifaceted. As the country awaits the next chapter in this ongoing saga, it is crucial to closely monitor the developments and decisions that will shape the future of the economy.

Abolish the FED. Go back on the Gold Standard.
Thomas Jefferson in a letter to John Taylor condemns the system of banking as “a blot” on the constitution, as corrupt, and that long-term government debt was “swindling” future generations (1816)
Grover Cleveland (The 22nd and 24th Presidential terms: March 4, 1885 – March 4, 1889, March 4, 1893 – March 4, 1897) President was arguably the greatest Advocate of a Gold Standard and fought hard against central banking.
The suppressed history of American banking : how big banks fought Jackson, killed Lincoln, and caused the Civil War… "Reveals how the Rothschild Banking Dynasty fomented (Instigated) war and assassination attempts on 4 presidents in order to create the Federal Reserve Bank”.
trump will cause a depression. look up his policies and those leading to the great depression. i'm assuming republicans haven't read a history book since they banned them.
Lowering interest rates causing inflation. But Joe got blamed for it.
A jokster in power when inflation cooled down. 🙄 No worries, Trump's tariffs will fix that 😂
Most presidents are clowns, and the general population is mindless. Fed reserve members should be selected based on experience, intelligence and credentials and immune from the bs political system of this country
the bolshevik fed has been swindling the American worker for decades by way of debased currency.
There's nothing "Federal" about the Federal Reserve. It's a Banking Caucus. Read "The Monster From Jekyll Island".
Thanks for the nice video. We all know that the digital market is creating a different revolution in the world economy. I make up to $45,000 per week trading in the digital market. Having a job now doesn't seem to guarantee complete financial stability. Instead, having multiple sources of income that don't depend on the government
The people voted him in, let the people feel it now
The fed killed jfk
That independence is key to keep the illusion of weath when all money is debt and fractional reserve banking is ruining the world
Leviticus 25:37
Magna Carta
Quran 2:275
In Duplum rule
Thomas Jefferson ~ "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies."
James A. Garfield ~ "He who controls the money supply of a nation controls the nation."
Thomas Jefferson ~ "To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude."
Ronald Reagan ~ "The government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."
it means news for wsj
The Fed’s independence is imperative because they can raise rates if inflation is high and unemployment is low, dual mandate, or vice versa. The Fed can also do QT or QE depending on the economy. Governments, under both parties, have been unable to stop themselves from overspending even in good economic times. Furthermore, the fed being independent allows them to cool down or warm up the economy. They may be too slow to raise rates and too slow to cut but it’s better than the government, as austerity measures are pretty unpopular.
Trump's conundrum is clear. Tariffs and deportations both come with very real risks of raising prices. Price increases could pause the Fed's cutting of rates or even cause them to raise rates again. Trump knows that both higher prices and raised rates are unpopular and he cares about nothing more than his popularity.
The Federal Reserve needs to be audited. That's not a party thing, that's an American thing…
"This would be a huge shift for the Fed, no doubt. Trump has been vocal about his views on interest rates and his preference for looser monetary policy to boost economic growth. If he returns to office, we could see increased pressure on the Fed to align with his economic agenda. The big question is how the Fed would maintain its independence while navigating that kind of political influence. It’s going to be an interesting dynamic to watch."
It's bizarre that so many MAGA people are pro-Milei because Trump controlling the Fed's decisions would be the first step to turning the US into pre-Milei Argentina. Even if you support Trump, why would you want the next Democrat President to be making Federal Reserve decisions? It's all so idiotic.
American Democracy Ending
Frankly, Trump's presidency means quite little to the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve will simply react, albeit currently with a reckless bipartisan Congressional debt record, with what is going on in the economy. If Trump pushes Congress to finally balance the budget (that metaphorical jury is certainly still out and in question) the Fed would be able to more easily maneuver. We must balance all Federal budgets and pay off the obnoxious debt. Powell has patiently suggested fiscal responsability to Congress consistently.
So who holds the Fed accountable? When the Fed does a terrible job and fails to deliver on their mandate, who provide oversight? They completely dropped the ball on this latest round of inflation, calling it "transitory" when it very clearly wasn't. Surely they can't mismanage the money supply that badly then walk away suffering no repercussions.
Inflation is caused by fiscal policy not monetary policy. Powell said nothing about Biden’s incredible budgets causing inflation. It will be interesting to see if he’s so inclined to keep his mouth shut about tax cuts.
“When a clown moves into a palace, he doesn't become a sultan. The palace becomes a circus.” ~ old Turkish proverb
Fed is a horrible institution. Its highly political and is using its power to decide who is in power in America
Very insightful! 😮 It's important to stay informed.
Trump can cut the Fed if he wants.
Jerome Powell is a god!!!
Why are we still talking about inflation? Inflation has been very low for more than 3 years now. That inflation was caused by the major shifts in production and distribution of goods caused by the pandemic, in other words cost-push inflation. The Fed needs to go back to the role of lender of last resort. Remember that? The dual mandate?
People seem to like the fed alot in these comments. I thought most people hated them
Taxation is theft, The Fed is corrupt and it's creation was illegal. Those who think the Fed is a necessary evil are out of their minds.
But Trump is a Republican so small gov right? Not more authority for the executive branch. Thats not very republican at all. Lol.
He better do what Trump tell him to do
FED must disappear. Fed is a scam
Can't see what could possibly go wrong with a billionaire sociopathic felon running the Fed. 🏃
Will the Fed keep cutting in 2025? https://on.wsj.com/41ERvRE
