El Alfa announced that he’s retiring from music this year and also taking a social media break following the death of his beloved grandmother last week.
“I know that life goes on but my feelings don’t go unnoticed. My grandmother taught me to love God above all things, therefore I will mourn in her memory,” the Dominican artist born Emanuel Herrera expressed in a heartfelt post on Tuesday (Jan. 7).
“Her happiness was to see me succeed, but I can’t even stay awake!! I say goodbye momentarily to my audience that loves me. I’ll be back soon, goodbye Instagram,” he continued. “I could have spent more time with her but my work didn’t allow it. The days of my retirement are getting shorter. ON DECEMBER 18TH OF THIS YEAR I WILL NEVER SING AGAIN… rest in peace grandma. I LOVE YOU.”
The decision for his retirement comes on the heels of his grandmother Ramonita’s passing on Jan. 3.
“Today is one of the saddest days of my life. I lost the love of my grandmother,” he said in a post shared on the day of her death, alongside a carousel of photos with his grandma. “Since I came into this world, she has always given me all the love in the world and more. I’m devastated. God has her in glory. She taught me to love God.”
In December, the King of Dembow wrapped his 2024 El Mejor Del Planeta tour, and his viral track “Este” in collaboration with Nfasis entered Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, where he boasts 21 career titles.
“Making dembow, putting people to dance and having fun, we’re the best at that,” El Alfa previously said to Billboard.
