The War in Ukraine has been a longstanding conflict that has caused immense suffering and devastation for the Ukrainian people. With Donald Trump promising to end the war, many are questioning whether this is a genuine commitment or just empty talk. The upcoming Munich Security Conference this weekend is set to provide some insight into the future of the conflict.
Trump’s Vice President, JD Vance, will be in attendance at the conference, along with a top diplomatic team, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and various European leaders. DW’s Richard Walker had the opportunity to speak with the Chair of the MSC, Christoph Heusgen, to discuss what can be expected from the conference.
There are key questions that remain unanswered – will Trump go soft on Russia or increase pressure? What concessions is Ukraine willing to make in order to secure peace? And what role must European leaders play in finding a resolution to the conflict?
The conference is expected to delve into various topics such as the Kremlin’s nervousness, Trump’s stance on the conflict, ongoing negotiations, the role of NATO, the possibility of peacekeepers, and whether there is an excessive focus on the West in resolving the conflict.
As the world watches and waits for the outcome of the Munich Security Conference, hopes are high that progress can be made towards bringing an end to the War in Ukraine. The stakes are high, and the decisions made at the conference could have far-reaching consequences for the region.

Perhaps Trump is playing the waiting game and just watching Russia collapse which has already begun…
ZioPigs control Germany ever since it was destroyed in World War 2
Deal-or-Die is biz as usual for Trump
Even Trumps most staunch supporters realize that he’s gone completely insane
It is a fantasy to think that Kremlin is nervous and willing to compromise for fear of Donald trump. Russia has never been afraid of anyone. It is the west that fear Russia otherwise they would have deployed NATO troops to Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin is the strongest and fearless leader in my life time
Isn't this the same guy that laughted at Trump in the UN when Trump said that Germany's dependency on Russian gas was extremely dangerous?
Literally 0 information 😔
Last time when I talked about grabbing opportunities to end the suffering of the people in Ukraine I was called a Russian bot… So is the Munich security conference ran by a Russian sympathizer then? BTW if you still dont understand that your main opponent is not Russia in Ukraine, but China, then I wouldnt make such conferences. Every singke bullet what NATO shoots in the steppe wont be in the Taiwan strait, that simple, to gain a huge market for their excess production while they are tariffed is just the additional benefit. So as long as Chinese are interested to continue this war, this war will commence, the Kremlin is not nervous at all.
Chairman Heusgen is informed, measured and, very unEuropean like, fair to USA. He knows Europe-NATO must war foot its industry into a credible deterrent lest it has to fight a war at the same time, likely losing.
When did this winning Stop
It is Donald Trump that fear president Putin when he scolded NATO for antagonizing the most efficient fighting force in the world (Russia). Don't ever say Kremlin is nervous, it is the collective west that is nervous.
Who is going to compensate Russia for the military expenses it incurred due to the unjust war imposed on it by Biden?
This time around You called it Aggressions only but not unprovoked 😅😅😅
Russia teachs novice Ukraine very good lesson, nervous of what? any agreement will be of to Russias advantage. World has changed to a point where sanctions will never be effective like it did with Iran, Venezuela etc.
DW still working for Merkelites, genuflecting to revanchist Russia by allowing all these illiterate bots to fill the comments.
You mean the EU, NATO, and the U.S. are getting nervous.
Bruh…
It doesn't make sense.
When did Ukraine have its own nuclear weapons?
She gave it away at the request of the United States, within the framework of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
What resources are there?
If the United States needed these resources, they would have dug up everything there long ago, without any war or billions of dollars in investments.
It's nonsense.
This reporter is like blinken who is cunning and supports deepstate
What is he talking about!? NATO is agressiv war hungry organisation!
Ukraine to have elections and stop the aid until elections are completed then we know what Ukraine wants now and then the war ends.
Negotiating with Putin is like negotiating with a chicken. It's entirely pointless as he will never follow the rules.
Germans think their opinion is important.
fitting it is in munich, the same town where the allies and axis abused and abandoned chechoslovakia, just like the west and russia will donto ukraine, ukraine won’t even be invited, ukraine unlike chechoslovakia will keep fighting
the whole reason for having a war on this scale was so that it can never be pulled back. the west cant afford to compete with brics and belt and road can we?
Alot of words saying nothing
