A magnitude 5.1 earthquake rattled parts of British Columbia’s South Coast on Friday afternoon. The quake struck at 1:26 p.m. PT with a depth of one kilometre, according to Earthquakes Canada. The epicenter was located between Sechelt and Squamish, causing tremors to be felt across the Sunshine Coast, Lower Mainland, and Vancouver Island. Despite the strong quake, there have been no immediate reports of damage in the region. Emergency Info BC has confirmed that there is no tsunami threat following the earthquake. Residents in the affected areas are urged to remain vigilant and prepared for any aftershocks that may occur.

A 5 gets people attention, when we lived in Japan my wife had her early warning system on her phone set to 4, anything less and she didn't want to know, I on the other hand being Canadian was up and ready to go at the slightest shaking. All the experts say that a big one will hit the west coast sometime, we made it through the 9.0 in 2011 and I hope nobody has to live through one of those.
