President Donald Trump’s ongoing efforts to challenge India’s trade policies have escalated with the imposition of a 26 percent duty on imports from the country. This move has been met with concern and criticism from experts, who argue that it could have a significant impact on India’s economy and its ongoing negotiations for a bilateral trade agreement with the United States.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government now faces the challenge of navigating the repercussions of these tariffs, which have the potential to disrupt trade relations between the two countries. The timing of this decision is particularly crucial, as discussions between India and the US for a trade deal are already underway.
The imposition of tariffs by the Trump administration is not a new development, as the President has consistently targeted India’s protectionist trade policies in the past. However, the recent increase in duties highlights the escalating tensions between the two nations over trade issues.
As India grapples with the impact of these tariffs, the global community will be closely watching to see how Prime Minister Modi’s government responds to this latest challenge. The potential fallout from these measures could not only affect India’s economy but also have broader implications for the global trade landscape.

The Indian business community is in fear psychosis.
All that hugging didn't work, now kissing at the right place should do!
Retaliatory tariffs on the US, by affected individual countries, and trading blocs or/and groups of countries, are a vital, necessary means to fight back against bullying because they serve as a means to deepen the isolation of the US, by making the walls higher; therefore targeting items directed not just against Republican states but also including trade in manufactured outputs and services, will deepen the isolation of the US and serve to stifle innovation and value-for-money products within. It could therefore be counterproductive, when countries capitulate to 'special deals' provided by the bully; other trading options should be explored.
oh no, poor diamonds exporters)
Bhakto bajao tali…you prayed for trump's victory. Your papa Modi has no spine to even utter a single word against these tarrifs.
Gems snd jewelry a waste of a industry America needs to stop buying things we don’t need and put these countries on their knees
Why is no one talking about India taxing others 😂
The whole tariff calculation is botched. Just see the video on it. Its just calculating the trade difference
India is taxing and others are also taxing
Lol, so called "expert" says India is an export dependent country, when exactly the opposite is true. India's economy is almost entirely domestic consumption dependent. Exports constitute only a 15% of the GDP, and exports to the US less than 2%. India is a $4T+ economy, and exports to the US are ~$80B. You do the math. This, coupled with the fact that other countries have a much larger tariff implemented by the Trump administration, meaning Indian exports to the US will now become more competitive than earlier, means that this video is complete hogwash. Either they have an agenda, or are completely clueless.
Come on India, you are the I in BRICS. Don't bow down to Trump.
Things are happening in real time. Nobody knows what will happen next! That's bad for jobs.
German cars should be more worried
India has zero leverage. Nothing to offer other than English speakers.
It may actually help India' textile industry and cripple its competitors including that of its neighbours.
Check India's tariffs against the US. There are hundreds of Indian tariffs on US goods. 70% auto tariff, 50% apples tariff. Look at tariffs on both sides and then decide what is fair. If India wants a better deal, then stop polluting and end government corruption.
They have imposed tariffs even with countries that they have FTA's with like South Korea and Singapore but tariffs have been imposed even on them so even having bilateral agreements would not help us. The only option for the rest of the world is to decouple from the dollar for trader if trump doesn't change his position as a bully needs to be tamed to normalise the situation
India can't respond the the US tarrifs, unlike China isn't a confident country with able leaders. It's just a sorry theocracy
Indian market is basically an insular one ; powered by internal consumption. Government spending is what drives the economy; infrastructure spending is huge. Germany wants to see everything through the lens of a small European country that relies too much on exports. Trade tariffs may slightly dent growth prospects of India and China ; But they won’t be long term owing to the size of their domestic markets. Actually the free trade in goods have not worked out well for India either; with Japanese, Korean and Chinese dumping their goods on us many of our own companies were forced to shut down. We had electronic companies like Videocon, BPL which were decimated as we were never given time to adapt to a technologically superior opponent like Samsung. Thankfully domestic manufacturers like Tata and Mahindra are currently giving tough competition to Suzuki and Hyundai . We want our manufacturing to thrive so millions of young Indians could become part of the workforce, reducing unemployment which is pretty high. So if US wants the same for its citizens, why should we complain as the government slogan here is “atmanirbhar Bharat” or self reliant India. DW should stop picking and choosing the respondents.
So India can have high duty on other countries, but US can't have tarrif on Indian goods
If India drops all tariffs to 0, Who will sell their jewelry in the US? India with 0 or 10% tariffs or China with 54% tariffs. Get on board fast or you will be left behind. India stance, Trump is a bully, how dare he charge us 1/2 of what we charge them.
Lets make it 0 to 0 tariff. The world will be a better trading place.
😂😂😂 do don’t sell anything to usa other than ceo
India has high tariffs on the US, the US then puts high tariffs on them. The US are bullies 😂😂😂😂
1). Good
2). Luck
India had tariffs on us first! Remove yours and Trump will do the same . We can no longer pay for the worlds problems
