Jagmeet Singh Steps Down as NDP Leader After Heartfelt Resignation
In a poignant farewell to his supporters, Jagmeet Singh announced his resignation as the leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP) on Monday night at the party’s campaign headquarters. The announcement came in the wake of a disappointing election result, where Singh lost his bid for a seat in Burnaby Central, a constituency he had passionately represented.
“It’s been the honour of my life to represent the people of Burnaby Central,” Singh stated, visibly emotional as he addressed the crowd. The heartfelt connection he cultivated with his constituents was evident, and his respect for their democratic choices was palpable. “Tonight they chose a new member of Parliament, and I wish them well as they continue to work hard for this community,” he added, underscoring the spirit of collaboration and dedication that has marked his tenure.
Despite the loss, Singh expressed pride in the campaign and the candidates who ran alongside him. He acknowledged their hard work, stating, “We had really good candidates that lost tonight,” before delivering a resolute message: “…we’re only defeated when we stop fighting.” This sentiment reflected Singh’s resilience and dedication to advocating for progressive values, even in the face of electoral setbacks.
The atmosphere in the room shifted as Singh revealed his intention to step down as party leader, specifying that he would do so once an interim leader is appointed. His announcement was met with audible gasps and cries of "no!" from loyal supporters, who had rallied behind him through numerous challenges.
The backdrop of the evening’s events was marked by projections from Global News indicating that Liberal Leader Mark Carney is poised to form the next government, stirring a sense of uncertainty within the political landscape as votes continue to be tallied nationwide. While the future remains unpredictable, Singh’s commitment to his constituents and party ideals resonates strongly, cementing his legacy in Canadian politics.

lassi gang out
Surprising how this incompetent Jagmit was ever elected leader of his party.Khalistani vote bank?
Singh has not cared since his liberal fisasco. BUT he got his golden parachute so he leaves smiling and rich(er)
So thankful for this. Goodbye, good riddance, and good days ahead.
Why are the native canadians cheering for jagmeet. Are they crazy or what. 😂
Mr Maserati is gone huh? Good. I just hope that Canadians start thinking in terms of how can we become more innovative, and entrepreneurial instead of this old and tired socialist view of how can we hire more paper pushers who get overpaid and never can get fired gov't workers to tax private entities. We have become a nation of beggars demanding everything and trying to kill any reasonable innovation or projects that will bring wealth to us all.
The oil and natgas pipelines should have been built 40 yrs ago. Then maybe India and China wouldn't be burning coal. We should have been building more trade with Asia and Europe 40 yrs ago but we became so reliant on the US we have no leverage with them.
Modi hai to Mumkin hai 😂
Feel for the guy in the back bawling his eyes out, and NDP did a few great things like bringing Dental Care, but I guess the leadership, messaging or maybe the fact it was a two horse election has cost them.
A totally despicable. Quisling, Benedict Arnold, Vichy, and now Jagmeet (Sellout) Singh. Canada's NDP used to be led by men like Tommy Douglas. They were known as the conscience of canadian politics. Why they now choose to follow a treacherous charlatan to a well deserved defeat is a mystery. How corrupt do you have to be to lead the NDP these days?
He brought up a few good ideas, but the damage this man has done to the NDP was huge.
never vote for you if you support martial law, tyrant.
Congratulations on your pension. It cost Canadians BILLIONS, so enjoy.
He did what is expected from someone like him. His kind only care for themselves, no matter the cost to anyone else.
How I despise the working class who make up over 95% of the population. It was the old CCF party, now the NDP who help bring in Medicare (introduced by Tommy Douglas while premier of Saskatchewan) as well as fighting for unions and labour laws. No gratitude from the working class as they go back and forth voting for either tweedle dee or tweedle dum.
He should have resigned a long time ago he failed from promising to support unions and workers
Failed the first time he promised to vote nonconfidence. when the government forced striking rail workers back to work, he said he would vote non confidence but did not.
Then the NDP federal would not listen to cries from its members and voters to get a new leader and just called us PP supporters. So many switched who they were voting for.
Oye keee hooyaaa? 😅😅😅…..tu teee khalistan bana raya seeee
Truly sad ,those that with selfish needs, elected, this clown, with single ounce of decency, he was so incompetent, he bouncwd around like an orphand child, for not securing a seat in ontario. If people forgot, Good riddens , you done Incredible job, destroying this Incrideble country, incredibly you are not a factor now, please go away,
he was doomed in his riding to begin with, and the reshuffle didn’t help. he couldn’t balance NDP leadership and the way NDP MPs typically have presence in their riding, so his constituents literally forgot about him 😂
By far the best speech he ever made. So glad to see him leave. Goodbye and good riddance
I respected him and liked him in the first years, even voted NDP, BUT he became a non-stop whiner, and mud slinger at our parties. Never talking what the NDP could accomplish. Too bad. Jack Layton was the best, a big loss when he passed away from cancer.
Exactly what he and his party deserves for supporting the toxic liberals.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Jagmeet and his party is paying the price for propping up the Trudeau and the Liberal reckless handling of the country's finances. Where was the NDP when the Liberals were doubling the deficit? Shoveling the money off the back of the truck.
He's a great guy. Simple as that.
you participated in ruining canada. congratulations
Wow, and I thought Trudeau was a narcissist. What a TOOL! Tanked an entire Party for 2+ Million dollars.
