One of the two movies that influenced Lee Harvey Oswald, the other movie was ‘Suddenly.’
It was pulled from theaters shortly after opening. People were disturbed about assassination of a president. It inspired Lee Harvey Oswald.
Unusual film for Hollywood to make with its socialist protagonists out to assassinate a right wing dictator in Cuba it was extremely prophetic predicting Castro overthrowing Batista, and going against American political interests.
Nice.
"Sr Ariete" who gun-downed manolo had a real life son, pedro armendariz, JR…who we knew through the spanish soap operas on tv.
it was wonderful to see the old magnificant buildings of cuba and its people pre-fidel…in high school we had teenage refugees who were in NM…and later that particular song "cuando sali de cuba" will always bring back those times of true need to seek a haven..it's difficult to imagine the hardship of leaving one's home & country because of marxism, dicatatorship and political death or imprisonment.
Love john Garfield died way too soon excellent actor
"but I have got my liberty"
Not for long, and not for a very long time.
