This season, Neon is mounting aggressive campaigns for five non-English-language contenders, including Norway’s “Sentimental Value,” Brazil’s “The Secret Agent” and France’s submission “It Was Just an Accident.” The indie distributor’s global push tests whether the Academy’s newfound embrace of world cinema is a permanent evolution or just a brief flirtation.
Elsewhere on the awards trail, Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” stormed the Gotham Awards nominations with a record six nods, signaling that the action epic could be a major player across categories this season. The lineup also boosted acting prospects for Benicio Del Toro, Teyana Taylor and breakout Chase Infiniti, while best actress frontrunner Jessie Buckley (“Hamnet”) continues to solidify her standing after months of critical praise.
