13:00 Foods that ruin gut health
1. Trying to improve gut health with fiber
Increasing fiber is one of the worst things you can do for your gut, yet it’s commonly recommended. If your gut is damaged, fiber can exacerbate the issue, contributing to gas and inflammation. If you have gut inflammation, the carnivore diet can help!
The carnivore diet helps increase glutamine, an amino acid that promotes gut healing. Zinc carnosine and butyrate, found in butter, are excellent for a healthy gut. Intermittent fasting and periodic prolonged fasting are crucial for maintaining digestive health.
Approximately 40% of the population has SIBO. L. Reuteri can help reduce SIBO and has many other amazing benefits. It increases oxytocin, lowers stres, and even increases social capacity. Ensure you have strong stomach acid for healthy digestion and protection from microbes.
2. Commercial probiotics and yogurt
The amount of probiotics in these products is so low that it won’t make a difference in gut health. Many commercial yogurts are low-fat and contain added sugar and starch.
3. Colon cleansing
This eliminates beneficial gut bacteria, which can ultimately lead to constipation and other health issues. Avoid detoxing and focus on a healthy diet.
4. Antibiotics
Your gut microbiome does not fully recover after taking antibiotics. Bacteria that survive antibiotics can become antibiotic-resistant superbugs! If you have to take antibiotics take a good probiotic simultaneously.
5. Antacids
Acid reflux is a valve problem caused by low stomach acid. Weakening your stomach acid worsens the problem. Strong stomach acid is vital for digestion, protection against pathogens, and mineral absorption.
6. Low-fat diets
Low-fat diets are bad for digestion because fat stimulates the gallbladder to release bile. Low bile leads to constipation and the inability to kill off microbes in the small intestine.
7. Balanced diet
Everything in moderation is the worst advice! Lowering carbs from 45% to 65% of your calories to 10% can significantly improve digestion.
8. Superfood shakes
Superfood shakes and smoothies with kale, spinach, and fruit can overload the small intestine with fiber. Red meat is the best superfood!

Can anyone explain the difference between bile salts and tudca? I thought they were the same thing…😲
So glad to have come across this video. Such solid and great information as I start on a journey of healing my gut after a terrible flare of diverticulitis. It's been brutal. My stomach hurts all the time. I still dont have normal bowel after a month. Feel sick and tired all the time. Fiber is definitely the enemy. Is cooked squash to much fiber? I am still trying to figure this out and what to eat. It's been hard. I will definitely follow this protocol. Thank you so much
Do your blood type have anything to do with it?
Perhaps the best thing you can do to have more time to spend with your loved ones in your life is to stop obsessing over how to live longer / healthier and let go and spend that time with your loved ones.
Sadly I live in a place that is sunny in the summer but overcast and cold in the winter.
The animated guy in the video looks almost like Dr. Berg!!
Anyways I'm a big fan of him.
What can be used instead of dairy for yogurt?
What about coffee enema?
I don't know what butter is from grass fed.
Used to blow up like a balloon after eating. Tried everything but my gut was too far gone.
Did a ten day water fast with a couple colonoscopy cocktails to clean everything out during the ten days.
I felt so much better. It was night and day. I was never even hungry. But I did have a lot of cravings.
Your kale shakes recommendations nearly killed me on more than one occasion because it drove out the iodine from my thyroid and I nearly had two heart attacks. Then you all meat recommendations lead me to get high cholesterol for the past 4 years which I'm just now being able to get under control. You also pushed keto diet for years and then said ketosis can lead to cancer. How many other people are screwing up their health by your recommendations which you then change later? This doesn't mean that everything you say is wrong or bad
Does number 1 include taking inulin fiber?
Hi Dr berg thanks for your services. Sir I listen to all your videos. Very informative sir I have a question I went keto and carnivore mixed died just 3 vegetables only avocado, cabbage and Brussels sprout for gut inflammation , constipation, and my body is very weak don't absorb nutrients. I loss allot of weight but I am already very skinny. What I have to do to increase muscle gain and to about nutrients. Even when I eat vitamins I still don't feel energetic. Plz guide me to gain some weight and fix my intestines to absorb more nutrients. I am 6.1 height and weight 151 lbs before keto I was 157
What do you think of Share Japanese fermented plums for constipation. They really work.
Berg nails it again! I was eating large salads, wheat bread and other heavy fiber foods….like the Doctors recommended. My gut was a mess. Constant bloating, gas, gut pain and always worried I was going to have to run to the bathroom. Changed my diet to more meat and lots of less fiber. Totally calmed everything down.
My elderly Mother was having the same problem. Her Doctor told her to take a fiber supplement and eat more fiber. . I questioned that and turns out I was correct. Don’t know how the hell some Doctors think.
I am really struggling with eating a carnivore diet. I have lost the enjoyment I used to have from eating meat of any kind. Even the organic, grass-fed meats don't taste good to me. I still eat chicken and hamburger but not a lot and only maybe three servings a week. What can I do? I don't eat a lot anyway and I do a lot of intermittent fasting. Is there anything other than meat that would help me?
So useful , I enjoyed watching this
I am loving the evolving information. Frequency (like infrared) is extremely interesting! I got a tuning fork for lymph drainage and I use it for everything now! Its the most "suedo science" thing I ever considered but let me tell you! There is 100% something to the frequency healing. WILD! It's still a hard concept for me to wrap my head around but I am experiencing it so….. there's something. I just watched 1/2 of the documentary Water Memory the other day, and again, can't wrap my head around it yet but there is obviously something to it. Wild times to be alive.
Dr. Berg, what if I struggle to digest fat, specifically animal fats?
This might be the most important video you have made ! Each key point can have a 3 hour discussion.
I swear by drinking fresh coconut. I drink one a day and then eat the soft pulp. My stomach is happy and my wife said my skin glows. 😂
OMG, Dr. Davis saved my life! This is my one year mark of following the SuperGut lifestyle! Great book, and between the two of you, I am 24 pounds lighter with NO BELLY! I had that crazy belly for over 20 years, and I ran marathons … I was thin but looked 5 months pregnant for YEARS1. I love sauerkraut and fermented stuff, and now my vitamin D has really helped other things (like SLEEP)!
Does coconut oil work for gut?
Dr Berg, i had a joint replacement and Dr now requires me to take antibiotics before dental visits. Any suggestions? Ive spent my life (55 yrs) avoiding antibiotics but am i stuck now?
Feeling sooo much better energy with all the advice. I just turned 44 years old,,, eleven years ago 😁
Are there any videos that focus on consideration of Crohns of the larger intestines?
Superb as always, Dr Berg!
Amazingly presented, animation and visual references are so helpful for our understanding!!
We were taught in school that the average person was one to 2 pounds of undigested meat lodged in their intestines. Either we were taught lies or a carnivore diet is not as good as the hype says
Check out my detailed video on digestion. It’s packed with helpful tips and you’ll definitely learn a lot from it!
