China’s biggest EV company may have just exposed one of the auto industry’s biggest pricing secrets.
For years, buyers accepted that advanced driver assistance, smart software, and premium technology belonged only in expensive electric vehicles. Then BYD announced it would bring its God’s Eye intelligent driving system to cars costing less than $10,000 in China—and suddenly the entire pricing model of the EV industry came into question.
In this documentary, we explore how BYD built one of the world’s most vertically integrated automotive companies, why its Blade Battery changed electric vehicle manufacturing, and how its aggressive pricing strategy is forcing global automakers to rethink what should come standard in an affordable EV.
We also examine Tesla, Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford, and other legacy manufacturers to understand why matching BYD isn’t as simple as lowering prices. Manufacturing scale, battery production, software development, and supply chain control all play a critical role in determining who can compete.
The future of electric cars may not be decided by who builds the most expensive technology—but by who makes advanced technology affordable for everyone.
