Title: Surge of Migrants Storms Spanish Enclave of Ceuta Amid Legal Changes
In a dramatic and unprecedented surge, approximately 49,000 migrants have crossed into Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco within just 24 hours, according to officials’ estimates. This influx marks one of the largest movements of people attempting to reach European soil, highlighting an escalating humanitarian crisis and the complexities surrounding immigration in the region.
On Thursday, vivid footage and images captured thousands of individuals swimming and wading across the waters into Ceuta. Local media reported that crossings continued throughout the night, reflecting the desperation faced by many as they seek refuge or a better life in Europe.
This wave of migration coincides with a recent ruling by Spain’s Supreme Court, which determined that migrants intercepted at sea while attempting to reach Ceuta or the other Spanish enclave of Melilla cannot be summarily returned to Morocco. The ruling potentially paves the way for more migrants to pursue their rights upon arrival in Spain, contrasting sharply with Spain’s previous practices of immediate repatriation.
The implications of this decision could reshape migration patterns in the region. Activists and humanitarian organizations have long criticized the pushback policies in place, arguing that they violate human rights and deny migrants the opportunity to seek asylum. The change in legal standing surrounding migrant crossings has amassed considerable attention in Spain and beyond, triggering debates over border security, human rights, and the responsibilities of nations in managing migration.
Ceuta, a city with a population of around 80,000, is often at the frontline of migration flows due to its geographical position adjacent to Morocco. The enclave has become a focal point in the broader discussion of migration to Europe, with thousands of individuals from various countries—including sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East—attempting perilous journeys to escape conflict, poverty, and instability.
Local authorities in Ceuta are grappling with the rapid influx, which poses significant challenges to resources and infrastructure. As tensions mount, the situation remains fluid, drawing attention from international observers, policymakers, and humanitarian organizations.
As migrant families seek safety and new opportunities, the potential for a humanitarian crisis grows, raising critical questions about the responsibility of European nations and the international community in responding to the ongoing challenges posed by migration. The developments in Ceuta will likely continue to influence discussions around immigration policy both in Spain and throughout Europe in the coming days.

As long as the Alawi royal family rules the country, there is no hope for Morocco. The corruption, rent seeking and short term greed that rule the economic logic of the royal court undermine all aspects of a normal society. The ruling clique discourage and strangle all foreign investment. Rural traditions, islamic/islamist influence on educational and judicial institutions do the rest. The financial elite that profits from symbiosis with the despotic monarch lives in Paris and Israel.
Please think twice before blaming Spain or the EU.
If they're not given food, water and sanitation what is going to happen?
60 soldiers to face thousands, should be tens of thousands facing thousands, 60?
What should Spain have done? Shot them? Or have the Italians forgotten how boats carrying migrants arrived on their shores not so long ago?
Battle of Abrahamics
Spanish enclave on Moroccan territory.. It's time Spain handed over Ceuta to mother land, the kingdom of Morocco. It's a weird situation in the 21st century.
This is why thousands of migrants just crossed from Morocco into the Spanish territory of Ceuta at the same time
The Spanish Supreme Court just ruled that "migrants intercepted at sea trying to reach the North African enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla cannot undergo immediate summary refusal of entry procedures". At the same time, "Spain is processing a massive regularisation program for undocumented migrants (read illegal immigrants) already in Spain".
That Spanish Supreme Court`s decition and PM Sanchez`s "regularisation" program for illegal immigrants have de facto legalized illegal immigration in Spain and into Spain.
PM Sanchez`s government announced already in January 2026 that they would launch an extraordinary programme "to give many of the undocumented residents (read illegal immigrants) a chance to regularise their status and work legally" . PM Pedro Sanchez claimed that his "immigration policy" was intended to "recognise the reality that hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants (read illegal immigrants) are already part of everyday life in Spain".
Under PM Sanchez`s scheme, "applicants needed to prove they had arrived in Spain before December 31, 2025, had lived in the country for at least five months and had no criminal record. The plan offers a renewable one-year residence permit, enabling successful applicants to enter the formal workforce and gain legal recognition".
But there is no realistic way to control any of that, so PM Sanchez`s plan is in reality to accept all illegal immigrants into his "legalization scheme," no matter who they are, where they are from, when they have arrived into Spain, what they have done before and how they have arrived into Spain.
PM Pedro Sanchez claimed falsely that his government "was seeking to recognise and provide dignity to people already living in the country", when in reality they were legalizing illegal immigration in Spain and into Spain. He and The Spanish Supreme Court have de facto just legalized illegal immigration in Spain and into Spain. Just like Labour have tried to do in the UK. And are still trying to do.
They are all on the way to walk on the red carpet, left out by Burnham. He will welcome them all with open arms.
And because we left the EU and are now outside of the Dublin accords (the cause of small boat crossings) sending the straight back to where they came from is harder. And no, leaving the ECHR (co established by Churchill) would not help)
Ahh yes liberalism in action.
Remember the Greens have just decided that their part of London will not be cooperating with immigration control and want it to be a sanctuary for immigrants.
Didn't Benjamin Netanyahu's tweet just get unearthed threatening Spain with an influx of migrants from Morocco if they didn't stop their support to Palestine
These hordes were sent by the Argentines as revenge for losing the World Cup.

Wow, you know the Overton Window has shifted when the BBC has to report on real news instead of just making the first “trans, black, lesbian, autistic” Doctor Who.
I dont think the EU`s new e-gates are working!
Good luck to those who made it!❤️ Hope you get a good life in Europe.
BBC used a day to find a subject to mislead the public. They broke in, not crossed. Shame on you BBC

Undocumented migrants. Call Trump for help.
"Thousands breach a border and Italy instantly threatens to suspend Schengen. Nothing unites the EU quite like panic over migration season."
It's not an invasion if the land belongs to Moroccans.
Get the army and NATO in. An attack on one is an attack on all. Close the boarders within Europe and deport, deport , deport
They're Morrocans crossing into Spanish controlled Morocco mainland North of Morocco. Happens every time the Spanish government makes an economic deal with Algeria, Morrocco derails the deal with these antics.
We strongly hope that tens of millions of migrants will also come to the UK
