I like the accessibility angle, but I’m more curious about how Tesla plans to handle emergency situations with no driver inside.
The Braille feature is actually more interesting than I expected. I wonder how practical it will be in everyday use.
Would you feel comfortable taking a Cybercab alone at night with nobody in the driver’s seat?
The technology might be ready before people are psychologically ready to trust a car with no driver.
If the RGB light shows which Cybercab is yours, that could solve a surprisingly annoying problem.
Getting thousands of Cybercabs on the road seems much harder than getting a few dozen to work on a test track.
The idea of the car communicating with pedestrians without a driver is pretty interesting. Could this become standard on robotaxis?
2,500 vehicles would already be a huge fleet. Do you think Tesla can actually maintain that many robotaxis reliably?
I’m still skeptical about the RGB lights. Is this really useful, or is it mostly a design feature?
I see a future that the majority of US drivers do NOT own vehicles. They subscribe to an UberCyberCab ride service. A user would subscribe to a certain numbers of miles per month for a flat fee. This is something I want to sign up for an eliminate the worry of owning and operating a personal vehicle.
Emergency services of many kinds can and will use robot taxis, with variable lights, regulated and selected for specific purposes.
1. Traffic control of vehicles, animals, and people.
2. Open and secretive monitoring and surveillance of areas and localities.
3. Moving staff (including Optimus, with or without additional equipment) as required, regularly.
4. Mass movements of passengers and goods of many kinds to and from specific destinations.
5. Geographic and town planning surveys, particularly of traffic movements: animals, vehicles, people, etc.

I’m sorry you seem to think there’s gonna be some kind of a battle here between autonomous vehicle companies you’re talking about a battle where one person brings a cannon and the other one brings a knife. Would Tesla is offering their rides at a dollar a mile and nobody can eat come even close why would anybody ride anything else? Mark my words people
Let's not PANIC. A large number of regular cab users arrive or depart thru airports – they already know driverless people movers of all kinds. Another large group are Uber et al users that are fine trusting strangers to get them there. The largest part of a town's people rarely or never use cabs and never will – they never need one – it's just not in their demographic. So chill out. Trust in ELON.
Those lights will not be helping those who are blind. As a former Transit Driver, years ago big city busses went from drivers calling out stops both inside and to the people at the stop when they were blind. That was replaced by annunciators which based on GPS call out every stop and self-identify the bus route and final stop when the bus pulls up to the stop. I am sure Cyber Cab will be required to provide this service for the handy capped. What they can't do is deal with wheelchair bound folks. Transit busses do this very well.
So, let's hope that city Governments don't start weaponizing against citizens banning their cars from city centers, especially combustion cars that are not EVs. That's the dark side of technology.
