Prime Minister Carney Unveils $1.2 Billion Investment to Safeguard Canada’s Oceans
In a bold initiative aimed at preserving Canada’s rich marine ecosystems, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a substantial $1.2 billion investment during a press conference in Vancouver, B.C. on Tuesday. This funding is set to enhance conservation efforts and ensure the long-term safety and health of the country’s oceans, which are vital not only for biodiversity but also for the livelihoods of coastal communities.
Addressing a gathering of environmental advocates and stakeholders, Carney emphasized the necessity of proactive measures to combat the growing threats facing marine life. “We must further strengthen our conservation efforts through fast, effective response plans and by changing how we build, how we travel, and how we operate on the water to minimize impact,” he stated. This comprehensive approach reflects a holistic understanding of the challenges posed by climate change, pollution, and increasing marine traffic.
In addition to the core investment, Carney outlined a commitment of $136 million over the next four years dedicated specifically to monitoring, assessing, and mitigating underwater noise across Canada’s vast oceans. As maritime activity escalates, the potential detrimental impact on marine habitats has become an urgent concern. The new initiative aims to address these challenges head-on, ensuring that Canada’s waters remain safe and hospitable for a diversity of marine species.
The announcement has been met with praise from environmental organizations and local communities that have long advocated for stronger protections for Canada’s oceans. By prioritizing conservation and enforcement, this investment promises to empower frontline efforts aimed at safeguarding marine environments.
As Canada prepares to navigate the complexities of ocean stewardship in an era of rapid change, the strategic allocation of resources will be critical in preserving the integrity of its marine ecosystems. The commitment marked by Prime Minister Carney signals a forward-thinking approach to ensure that Canada remains a global leader in ocean conservation. This investment is not just a financial commitment but a pledge to future generations to protect the natural wealth and ecological health of Canada’s coastal waters.

So steel companies are closing down and Canadians are loosing jobs .. where’s the help for them 🤷🏾♂️
More money laundering…
Carney is doing a great job. Good luck Mr Carney.
It’s hard to care about these issues when people are struggling to pay their bills and put food on the table. While protecting the environment is important, taxpayers are being asked to shoulder increasingly higher costs to achieve those goals. The reality is that many ordinary people simply can’t afford to “go for broke” on environmental policies when they’re already struggling to make ends meet.
I love the idea of increasing protections for our oceans.❤
The only projects that mark Carney's going to green light are projects that he's invested in. He's over 91% invested in America, not Canada.
Canada NEED an EFFECTIVE opposition party now.
Lovely job.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Primininiter don’t let Trump do evil things to us
He'll protect the oceans but can't protect steel workers.
The oceans are like people, who keep people fed; as long as the oceans are cared for and remain healthy, we can care for ourselves, and we are cared for. Thankyou for the recognition.
Carney is doing amazing work! He is the greatest PM we have ever had! You got my respect Carney and my vote in the next election 🎉
European chemical and toxicity standards are good. Superior to Canada. Market Place did a wonderful episode on this. Canada needs to change for better standards that values health, nature and people not products and corporations.
In other news the Liberal Green Slush Fund of $400 million dollars has been declared as being unaccounted for and has been listed as MIA.
Now back to more SBG announcements involving more Spending , more Borrowing , and more Giving away of money
Vive le Canada!
Will you be cutting off the sales of Sockeye salmon to the White man for 20 bucks each and the ones that don’t sell get thrown in the closest ditch?
Let's if it has any measurable impact.
What a crock of horse manure! More bureaucracy and money wasted. Adding a few oil tankers will make ZERO impact on “ocean conservation.” Over a decade ago there were 209 binding conditions attached to approval for a pipeline to the NW BC coast. Many of those conditions applied to marine terminals, ship traffic, navigation support, and oil spill response. Many were implemented even though the liberals cancelled that pipeline. The B.C. coast is full of marine traffic. Thousands of vessels sail those waters. Hundreds more sail in the open ocean off Haida Gwaii. Nobody fussed about “ocean conservation” as the cruise ships, container ships, naval vessels, ferries, barges, and pleasure craft numbers were encouraged to increase. There has NEVER been any talk of restricting any marine traffic EXCEPT oil tankers on the NW BC coast. Once again, the liberals are playing games.
Canada is separating from Quebec to Calgary and our government is funding money out without concrete solutions to high cost food prices, homeless, housing, clean water for First Nations people, fixed income seniors, … 😢😢😢
Go canada and oceans 🌊
Wooo 🎉🎉🎉
This guy is making investments in specific regions to prepare for more mineral extraction under the guise of "environmental protection".
I don't care about any of this if I can't pay my bills and have a life. None of this matters unless you undo former Conservative PM Brian Mulroney'a separation of wage increases from increases in demand for productivity. Labour is worth 90% of net profit, as employers earn nothing on their own and no more than 10% of the labour of another. Employers own their own risks and their own businesses but they do not own people nor do they earn the profits that come from the labour of others. If you truly care about the future of Canada you will take care of the wages of workers first and fairly. We cannot continue down the path of stagflation and allow employers to continue to collude in the theft of worker's earnings. You are welcome for the jobs we as Canadian workers do, but they don't do anyone any good unless we are paid what we actually earned for doing them. No one else should be entitled to that. So please, if you would, set the story straight and allow talent agents their 10% and nothing more. It's about time people start taking home what they earned, and that nobody takes home anything they didn't. Capitalism can suffer for labourers rather than the other way around. There is no good reason to do it any other way.
Oceans??? What about the cost of living, homelessness, food bank line ups, mortgage foreclosures, over crowded hospitals, the 250k in BC without a family doctor?? This government has failed Canadians even there own liberal supporters! When are Canadians going to wake up
GO QUECEC GO!!!!! DO IT!!! PLEASE!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD JUST DO IT!!!!!
I WONDER HOW MUCH OF THAT BILLION DOLLARS WILL END UP IN HER GUCI PURSE???? AND HIS BANK ACCOUNTS?????
Why not use it to save jobs.?
Carney invest 1.2 billion in the oceans, no jobs created, trump invest in Americas largest steel plan and creates jobs. liberals and fish are happy
