Did Ukraine’s Strikes on Yandex Data Centers Disrupt Russia’s Bot Army?
In a significant escalation of its campaign against Russian infrastructure, Ukraine has launched targeted strikes on data centers belonging to Yandex, often referred to as “Russia’s Google.” These attacks have sent shockwaves through the digital landscape of Russia, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asserts that the operations have led to a marked decline in the activity of Russian bots across social media platforms.
According to reports, the strikes affected multiple Yandex facilities, resulting in disruptions to vital services, including online payments and search functionalities. This disruption appears to have heightened the impact on the ordinary Russian user, who increasingly relies on Yandex services for daily activities.
Zelenskyy has noted a key outcome of these strikes: a decrease in hostile bot activity on social media. This assertion raises questions about the connection between undermining Russian digital infrastructure and the overall propaganda capabilities of the Kremlin. How much damage have the strikes truly inflicted, and what evidence supports Zelenskyy’s claim about the decline in bot activity?
To delve deeper, DW News turns to strategic studies expert Phillips O’Brien from the University of St. Andrews, who provides insight into the broader implications of Ukraine’s evolving tactics. O’Brien highlights that this shift towards targeting data centers over more traditional military targets reflects a nuanced understanding of modern warfare, where information and digital influence play pivotal roles.
The Lithuanian Prime Minister has echoed calls for increased actions against Russian data centers, suggesting a robust coalition among Ukraine and its allies in targeting digital infrastructure to diminish Russia’s disinformation capabilities further.
The discussion extends beyond the immediate effects, as O’Brien hints at the potential long-term repercussions of disrupting Russia’s digital command. As winter looms, Russia has also ramped up its own attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, creating a pressing context for both countries as they strategize their next moves.
While the video covers these complexities, it also touches on broader geopolitical discussions, such as the implications of a potential energy ceasefire proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump and the evolving dynamics of U.S. foreign policy toward this conflict.
As the narrative unfolds, one must consider the balance between military action and digital warfare, and how these strikes on Yandex could signify a critical shift in the ongoing confrontation between Ukraine and Russia, reshaping the battlefield into an arena where information is as powerful as weaponry.

Fine job, but not everyone agrees across the board. America is not against Ukraine. That is Trump. Even here blaming Ukraine gives him an out, and they are not a NATO member. Also his talk does not mirror his actions. Trump has not been good to Russia except in rhetoric. It still drives me crazy that he does not he expresses what should be an American perspective, but his own. It is worse now that the Iran war has dominated American policy. Russia is not the answer in the long run. His own policy caused this.
Yes! Fewer Russian bots is clearly a win for truth minded people everywhere! Add data centers to oil production, refining, and storage!
Slava Ukraine!
Great, now if only the US military disabled US social media and AI bots.
If ever there is a thorough digital forensic investigation of Twitter right before and after Elon Musk purchased it, there will be discovery there pointing to similar effects as Yandex data centers going down
Ukraine 🇺🇦 is fighting for freedom for the whole world at this point. These bot farms are a real scourge for Democracies.
Does this mean you cant use the "you are russian bot" argument anymore?
Yea I'm sure it's all those Russian bots that voted in German elections that didn't go the German state media's way.
Trump either made the whole thing up, or hallucinated the "agreement". Congress won't do anything about Trump being on the very edge of destroying the world, because the Republicans are making money out of him. The root of all evil is the love of money, and to the Republicans, and Trump, money is their god. We are truly in a battle between good and evil.
Keep hitting them !! They are trying to interfere with our elections..
Glory to the Hero's and Defenders of Ukraine.💙💛💙💛
Data Centers are expensive to build. Hitting them will hurt Russia more than oil, I think
Thank you Lithuanian PM 1:38 🎉 AfD and all the lies and corruption around the world run on these Data Center BOTs
Need to find Trump's bot farm now lol
Ukraine performing miracles to get rid of all the far-right bots.
Reform and Restore Britian Supporters in the UK has gone silent as well.
Hahaha one of the best gifts Ukrainians could give the world. Thank you!
🎉😂❤
It should be easy enough to actually track this effect, it absolutely would smoke out the lying orc propagandists.
More power to Ukraine! Screw Putin, screw the oligarchs, screw the GOP!
YES! More of this! Across the globe!
Maybe they should hit a few data centers in the US too.
Interesting usually this would be considered a war crime but since its Russia it's fair game. Watch Russia do the same. Theyll be outcry 😂
The internets collective IQ just rose up by 80 points.
Zelenskiy made himself believe that he’s a medieval leader and has the right to force men to go to war, if you support that you’re not a democrat you’re sick
Ukraine deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for hitting the russian bot-farms! Thank you heaps! 🙏🙏🙏 please keep on going! 🙏🙏🙏
More effective than a coordinated hacking attack. Keep hitting those bot farms Ukraine 💪🇺🇦
Ukraine’s strikes on Yandex have disrupted Russian digital services. Zelenskyy says they also reduced Russian bot activity on social media. That's a claim that remains unverified. Could targeting data centers weaken Moscow’s information warfare? What evidence would convince you?
