Flood of Reactions After 7 Montreal Officers Fired Over Racism, Discrimination, Abuse of Power
In a pivotal moment for the Montreal community, the police department’s decision to dismiss seven officers for their roles in racism, discrimination, and abuse of power has sparked a wave of reactions. The swift action taken by the Montreal Police Service has been met with cautious optimism from community activists, who see this move as a necessary step towards accountability. However, many remain skeptical about the ability to address what they term systemic issues within the police force.
Activists argue that while the removal of these officers is significant, it is merely the tip of the iceberg. Alain Babineau, Director of the Red Coalition, expresses a cautious optimism paired with a call for deeper structural change. “I want to see more,” he said, advocating for accountability at higher ranks within the police. Babineau’s desire for further dismissals, including sergeants, inspectors, and even higher-ranking officials, underscores a collective sentiment that the problem is entrenched and requires a more comprehensive review of police practices and policies.
The community’s reaction is a mix of relief and wariness. Many residents see the firings as a promising sign that the police department is willing to confront wrongdoing within its ranks. Yet, the lingering distrust in policing institutions leads some to question whether such isolated actions will lead to genuine transformation or simply serve as a façade for deeper issues. The police chief’s decision to take such decisive action has been welcomed, but activists caution that without a broader systemic overhaul, these efforts may not yield the lasting change needed to build trust between officers and the communities they serve.
In the wake of this significant development, the conversation has shifted from merely acknowledging such egregious behavior to actively seeking solutions that will create a safer, more equitable policing system in Montreal. Community leaders and advocates are pushing for these discussions to encompass all levels of the police hierarchy, illustrating a desire for transparency and integrity that extends beyond the mere firing of individuals.
As the city of Montreal grapples with its history of policing, this moment presents an opportunity for reflection and action. The ongoing dialogue within the community reveals a collective yearning for justice, accountability, and systemic reform, laying the groundwork for a renewed emphasis on equality and respect in law enforcement. While seven officers have been dismissed, the fight for a more just police force continues, powered by the voices of those demanding change.

Ridiculous.
Look at the streets of Montreal lately.

Took too long
Where are the charges ?
How about charging criminals with crime! Oh that just wouldn’t make sense would it!?
Should have happened sooner!! I just quit going to Quebec long time ago!! Was nailed for nothing three time in one month!!
Yeah I know that there are good officer's out there but if I get pulled over in the back of my mind would be What if???
There are more than a few bad apples. Do independent audits and weed them out.
Should have been 70 fired not 7
Corporate police 👮 forces defund the police
Oh my god, they got rid of racism and not being nice to homeless people. Except Montreal is drowning in organized crime. And how many of those cops are on the take, but please get rid of racism
The Calgary Police are doing even worse things to me—flying a plane over me for no reason, invading my privacy, and showing the malicious behavior of their officers. Your day of reckoning is coming.
Montreal is the city with the most racists and corrupt police in Canada smh disgusting
humilited me on basis of province and launguage in ottawa .
Those are crimes and not just bad work ethics.
They deserve some jail time too.
This is the same Police 'Farce' that during a labour dispute wore sweatpants to work instead of a proper uniform. Police used to be former Military Guys that understood real people and would keep them out of trouble, drive them home, council not punish or ticket. They were the same as everyone else. Now you have these Armoured Jackboot Thugs that are loyal only to their Paycheque. Same as Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Everywhere. Gov't pays them your money and they obey Gov't, trash their oath and that is why disgusting things follow. God has left the room and Gov't is the new Morality.
i'm glad they were fired racist people like that shouldn't be in position of power.
