In the latest 8,000-mile update of our Long Term 2024 Mazda CX-50, we continue to be impressed by this crossover that has quickly become one of our favorites. Over the last 1,300 miles, we have not encountered any new issues, reaffirming our initial positive impressions of this vehicle.
The Mazda CX-50 strikes a perfect balance between car-like comfort and utility. The driving experience is quintessential Mazda – highly competent and sporty. The highlight remains the steering, which offers a tight and responsive feel. Additionally, the power delivery from the 2.5-liter turbo I4 engine is delightful, providing up to 256 horsepower for plenty of “zoom zoom” on the road. Fuel economy has also been impressive, averaging 25.2 miles-per-gallon, meeting government expectations.
While the CX-50 may not be Mazda’s most groundbreaking effort, it excels in its category. Our five-month ride along has only deepened our appreciation for this vehicle, which serves as a reliable weekday-commuter and adventurous weekend companion.
