In the Caribou region of B.C., a giant landslide occurred on Tuesday night, blocking the Chilcotin River. This has raised fears of a potential flooding disaster as the river flows into the much larger Fraser River. If the blockage gives way, a rush of water could ensue, posing a serious threat to the area. Residents are hopeful that measures can be taken to prevent such a catastrophe from happening. The situation is being closely monitored by authorities in order to mitigate the risks associated with the blocked river. The potential for a giant water gush in the Chilcotin River remains a cause for concern as efforts are made to avert any possible flooding disaster.

…'a calculated guess" Thanks for not telling us what the guess is.
Quit crying. Mother Nature just made a new lake.
They should research Earthquake Lake, west of Yellowstone National Park. Same thing happened. They quickly brought in a bunch of dozers to cut the top down so the water would gradually go over the top and slowly erode a channel through it.
I am leaving now
I bet you can find tons of gold underneath that river bed
Mother nature is going to do whatever it wants.
Mother Nature will determine property boundaries.
Dumb philosophy , if something happens we'll hear about it ? Maybe , it could burst and before your warned , all you see is a wall of water . Then what ? That lil boat won't help you . Hoping for the best for y'all .
Get out of there
I'd start digging a channel if you want any chance of controlled flow.
I would be out there mining for gold, or expensive rocks. But that's just me
It should not be a surprise… Do a scan of the top of the slide. You can then predict pretty closely where the water will go as the river rises behind the slide.
The solution is obvious, raise the carbon tax so environmental disasters like this can be avoided. Climate change is real and its our fault, we need to pay more today to get the results tomorrow.
how close to the top is the water? How much is it rising every day?? How deep is the lake??? Some piss poor reporting!!
It's so far in the middle of nowhere that there is no plan to actually do anything about it except let nature take it's course. It's actually so far out that if they didn't produce this story, no one would even know it happened.
Ego is always your worst enemy. It won't be boring I'm guessing!
All thirteen people where evacuated.
Not a big deal.
But keep building up the story.
Get a camera on it!
No amount of prayers will stop the water from breaching the dam.
That soil is more compact than they think. It seems it will fill and crest the top, then once the water gains speed again its gonna rip that earthen dam right away.
Doesn’t look like a lot of water to me. But anyhow. Why don’t they get a bulldozer and digger and dig out a side trench to relieve the water. Create a new river section?
1959 Hebgen Lake earthquake (also known as the 1959 Yellowstone earthquake)
occurred in the western United States on August 17 at 11:37 pm (MST) in southwestern Montana
They should know what needs to be done if they have the man power
Once in a lifetime natural phenomena we all get to witness and celebrate as a community 😀
Watch the water.
If you blew out a channel and create a slow release like the day it happened the risk would be minimal but sure just sit on your b hind doing nothing but complain and fear monger
Mother Nature changing the landscape is nothing new. It is what it is.
But,by all means can we blame climate change and pass more disastrous laws. The salmon!!!!!Oh the humanity!!!!!!
ecological concerns? everything about this is natural
I'm actually impressed with how they're prepping…here in the USA our leadership would be like "Yea you're fine..go play on top of it & maybe take your kids"
Looks like it's time to drill a big hole and place a big bit and tunnel through to let water pass like or dam it and divert water for needed projects that could use water.
1:29 – salmon freaking out about it!
Why are you causing fear? No dam is going to break because the slide is not a man made dam, it is natural, solid earth. Water will not break through the slide, it will find a way around or over top…slowly and naturally. Stop causing fear.
If it goes today, then it will have the same anniversary as Mt Pollley, August 04.
WooHoo! New lake! Fishing is gonna be great!
Don’t mess with mother nature, she’ll hurt your feelings every time.
It's going to take a long time for the new lake to drain. A new stream is going to have to figure out a way to cut through the landslide, which is huge. It's not going to get pushed out of the way all at once.
The river will go around it,do to the packing of soil after the slide,it will start as a trickle but become intense till till it levels to where it needs to be,there maybe slightly flooding but not too much, the rivers get there shape from slides,it's happened before and will happen again and again.
Looks like taxing people doesn't magically fix the environment. who woulda known😅🤣😂????
when it goes over the top the rapid erosion is essentially exactly the same as it "bursting". this thing is going to be BAD.
You tell me nobody’s got enough balls to drive an excavator out there
who are these people? they're in charge? 1km long? i saw a video from two days ago of a helicopter flyover and the new reservoir was easily at least five kilometers long. it's getting bigger every second. and at least 100' deep at the dam, probably that deep for almost the entire reservoir.
watch any dam breach. this is going to suck bad.
This IS yet another attack on our food supply by the elimination of salmon habitat. I guess that Nikola Tesla invention of EARTHQUAKE TECHNOLOGY was indeed perfected….. oh yes he DID and he TESTED it in New York city. LOOK into it.
had to lol when the cbc news reporter said "thousands of liters of water could be released if the dam bursts". Average flow is 100 000 liters per second, flood flow is a million liters/second or 60 000 000 liters per minute. so she's warning the public that a collapse of the mud dam will release only an insignificant fraction of it's normal flow.
A C+ average at the grade 10 educational level should be a requirement for newscasters and their writers.

That Sturgeon fisherman has a bit of an Oceangate vibe going on about all of this…….
I don't like a report that ends in questions to answers a good reporter should have. Talk to a mathematician. Mist likely their is a government employee tgat is paid $400,000 a year that should already be broadcasting your answers before they are even asked. 🙄
Cleaning the gene pool in Canada. I have time! lol
A good mining company with a good blasting crew could open up a channel on that solid side in about 2-3 days if they really wanted to…
Call me uneducated, but could the military not come in and shoot mortars at it in order to blow a trench for the water to start passing through? No one would need to be close in order to do so. And you could do it in a slow controlled manner letting the river advance little by little
Mother 🌍 Earth is showing her might
I think it's going to be more catastrophic than what they're saying
