In a world where smartphones have become a constant companion, some individuals are making the bold choice to switch to “dumb phones” in an attempt to break free from their screen addiction. Our tech reporter Jordan Hart took on this challenge in the bustling streets of New York City to see if a simple flip phone could really help curb her tech dependency.
The allure of dumb phones lies in their simplicity – without access to tempting apps like Uber, Lyft, Spotify, and Apple Music, users are forced to rely on more traditional methods of communication and navigation. But at what cost? A dumb phone may be cheaper initially, but the convenience and functionality that smartphones offer can quickly make them seem like a worthwhile investment.
During her experiment, Jordan tested out essential functions like GPS, dining out, scanning QR codes, texting, and even taking selfies with a flip phone. While some tasks proved to be more challenging without the aid of a smartphone, Jordan also noticed a sense of freedom from constantly being tethered to her device.
However, the withdrawal symptoms from not having instant access to apps like Cash App, Venmo, and Zelle were undeniable. In a world where digital transactions have become the norm, relying solely on a dumb phone may not be practical for everyone.
In the end, Jordan concluded that while dumb phones have their benefits in terms of reducing screen time and promoting mindfulness, they may not be worth the sacrifice of convenience and connectivity that smartphones provide. As technology continues to evolve, finding a healthy balance between staying connected and unplugging remains a personal challenge for many.

Dumb phones are bad at being smartphones, duh. The idea is to become a dumb-phone user. Carry a paper map, ask the restaurant for a paper menu, text "just the facts ma'am". Entertain your self with our deluxe reality.
But did she kill her cheeseburger addiction ?
The answer is obvious 😮
My daily average 13 to 14 hours!!! Help….
I unsubscribed your channel. It just feel dumb
I really miss physical keyboards. I think I would be texting much more if I has one. Sometimes typing on the screen frustrates me souch that I just don't fi
i bought a new Nokia 215 2024 months ago as a weekend/day off phone.. honestly it makes a huge difference when i can physically avoid calls and notifications.. this video was just a crap take on the dumbphone usage trend, not enough time taken to actually "use" it as a daily driver or downtime phone.. switching to one requires more than just a few hours
I can run down to the Dollar General and get a shitty flip phone for $30 with like 100 minutes and unlimited texts. WTF is she getting all that for? No wonder she got a dumb phone..
What in the name of holy mother of God are you doing on your phone for 8+ hrs a day ?!
Flip phones are a really good idea for people who drive for a living. It's harder to falsely accuse you of using a dumb phone….. Just sayin.
FYI, you cannot cure addiction, you can only change from bad addiction into good addiction (aka passion).
you gotta be pretty dumb to need navigation in New York City. the streets are numbers. if you are on 14th St and the address is on 28th St then you walk up 14 blocks. if that is math is too hard for you then you should not be living in NYC.

Weak minds need these, like her
And Gen Z won't believe this, but it was our phone during school years, we survived before we even have phones
In early 2000s we all wanted the smallest phone as possible.
In the 2020s we all want the biggest screen as possible
For me the biggest drawback of smartphones is YOUTUBE, (Tiktok for younger generations).
We spend way too much time on YOUTUBE, scrolling videos we don't even care about.
How many times have we watched the same YT short on 10 different channels?
If I get rid of YouTube I won’t have anything to watch at night. If I get rid of social media I won’t know what’s going on n the world. But I would save an enormous amount of time…to…do…what? I’m retired. There’s only so many books I can read, yard work and house chores I can do. I have a few projects, but I get those done.
$20 breakfast?
You could pay with cash. One restaurant I went to didn’t accept cash. I didn’t go back.
Just delete your social media apps. It’s not difficult!!
A good book is an awesome way to get off your phone. I keep both a real one and load up a few audio books free from the library for commuting, gardening, housework, etc. It can be a relaxing time and is often a conversation starter. I find it very sad how nowadays that everywhere you look, everybody is looking down at a phone and not paying attention to potential friends, mates, artwork, nature, and life in general. It passes by so quickly with missed opportunities and chance meetings. — And please don't get me started on little kids and babies being ignored by their parents at restaurants, etc. The poor kids often have their own pads shoved in their faces. They don't have much of a chance to build community and healthy relationships these days. Sheesh! 😢
u didn’t even use the phone for a whole day, this video tells us nothing
3 hours in and she just gave up 😂 the addiction is too strong
She completely missed the plot. It isn't about getting more, it's about reminding your brain to be OK and comfortable with less. It's not about whether people see it as a novelty and want to strike up conversation with you, wtf..
I have a dumb phone, it's red in its box somewhere in my house never been used.
Imagine living in a country where you're oppressed and still able to spend 8.25 hours a day on recreation!
i have no social media its best life
I'm the only adult I know that doesn't use a smartphone. I'm still using a land line.
ARe least leave the smartphone at home.
Brutal experiment.
