The Teamsters Canada union has strongly denounced the decision to impose binding arbitration in the ongoing Canada rail shutdown. Speaking at a rally held at Canadian Pacific Kansas City Ltd. (CPKC) headquarters in Calgary, Alberta, representatives of the union voiced their opposition to the arbitration process being enforced on workers. The Teamsters believe that this decision is unjust and goes against the rights of the workers involved in the shutdown.
The Canada rail shutdown has caused significant disruptions to the transportation industry and the economy as a whole. With railway workers on strike, the movement of goods and services across the country has been severely impacted. The imposition of binding arbitration only adds to the tensions between the workers and the company, with the Teamsters calling the decision “not acceptable.”
The Teamsters Canada union is continuing to fight for the rights and fair treatment of its members during the rail shutdown. The union believes that the workers should have a say in the resolution of the labor dispute and that imposing binding arbitration takes away their ability to negotiate for better working conditions. The rally at CPKC headquarters in Calgary was a show of solidarity among union members in their fight for justice.
As the Canada rail shutdown continues to affect the transportation industry and the economy, the Teamsters Canada union remains steadfast in their opposition to the imposition of binding arbitration. The union is calling for a fair resolution to the labor dispute that takes into account the rights and well-being of the workers involved. The rally at CPKC headquarters was just one way that the Teamsters are voicing their disapproval of the decision and standing up for their members.

The government should step in at the behest of the rail barons and order the workers to go back to work. Eliminate any bargaining power they have. The government should also make up some excuses like "its for the countrys economy " (even though they have trashed it themselves over the past 8 years), the farmers will be hurt (while they pile tax after unmanageable tax and regulation on the very same farmers)..Etc.
I hope its becoming clear to people that the role of government has shifted to taking money from you and giving it to the ultra rich.
The rail worker's have the power if they stand as one.
Hopefully people realize enough is enough.
Is it possible the rail corporations can't meet their payroll. There's more going on then were lead to believe.
Go Teamsters !
The elite team, screwing over every one for their good .
Agree with you guys 100% but this is why robots will take ur jobs soon
Exactly. They are making record profits. There should be record raises and better working conditions.
Another example of an "essential service" only when it benefits the union….
Employees are not slaves, you cannot simply order people to work. Fair wages for fair labour. We cannot force some to compromise just because it will be "convenient" for the majority.
Amazing how Corporate bootlickers are ok with the CEO's making 14-20millipn a year! But they are against average workers getting fair wages! These governments are supporting their Corporate allies by promoting Corporate STOOGE arbitrators. Binding Arbitrators are all Corporate mouthpieces
The Liberals with all their unconstitutional legislation, have broken the state's social contract with Canadians. If the Government doesn't have to follow the constitutional limits on their power then the people are not required to follow their laws. They are destroying the very fabric of the rule of law.
Take back all politicians raises they took for past 3 years and give to these unions and up coming. The politicians created this mess and they should be ones to pay for their mistakes
This is gonna be super bad if trains don't start moving again very soon…..another 4 or 5 days and we'll be seeing boil water advisories.
didn't the mob disappear Jimmy Hoffa years ago?
Union workers should ignore the Government. What are they going to do? Fire thousands of trained employees? It would take years to find, hire, and train THOUSANDS of new employees! It's never going to happen. And if the Government threatens them with fines, refuse to go back to work until those fines are rescinded. YOU have the power!
Teamsters can easily afford a $10-million CND legal bill? Prayers
I'm not Canadian, but I'm a Teamsters member, and I support my fellow Teamsters in Canada.
Teamsters don't back down
if moving goods and people across the country is not an essential service then there's no need for an imposition of binding arbitration.
You dont get to hold a whole country hostage. Get back to the table, ya bunch of whiners. Entry level positions paying 44 THOUSAND, with an average of 65 THOUSAND, topping out around $113 THOUSAND ?!? Entitled much ? Your jobs were essential during the pandemic, you’re essential now. Do something like work to rule, but get the freight moving before the stores start jacking prices up again, or there’ll be hell to pay
Teamsters don’t back down. Corporations won’t give you anything you have to take it.
Government voted in by the people and then create high cost of living and then stab the people in the back. Then mainstream media who is subsidies by the people, stab the people in the back as well.
Don’t complain about cost of living if you’re not willing to fight for fair financial compensation.
Government officials and media wipe the protein off your face and continue to stab your people in the back
Binding arbitration is only unacceptable when the demands are unreasonable.
Good. Yeah, they can't force binding arbitration. It's a constitutional faux pas.
Get ready for the strike
Ruh-oh. 😅😮
The more the public is inundated with messages about economic hardship while big corporations are earning record profits, it’s going to become exceedingly difficult to keep wages as low as they are. Maybe, just MAYBE, wealthy shareholders can forgo their extra yacht this year and pass on those earnings to the people who do all of their work, their workers. Wages across Canada need to rise. Everyone is making money except for the people doing the work. This situation can’t continue.
If close rails were is our food grain coming from gas
American are calling the laughing stock Canadian
Does make any sense to close rail where is our supply coming from crazy
I would ignore this government, they have broken more rules with no one arrested with every crime they actually did.
Thye should get electric trains
Their goal is to relegate the majority of us to superfluous population.
Only the worthy like trump and his acolytes will remain.
We will become geidi-prime.
so what about all the businesses that will lose millions of dollars like the farmers, how is that fair for them?
