The evolution of the modern chip bag has led to a complicated mix of plastics and aluminum that make them difficult to recycle. Known as multilayered packaging, this design is used in a variety of products beyond just chip bags, including juice boxes, ketchup packets, and yogurt pouches. The use of multiple materials in these packages makes them almost impossible to recycle in traditional recycling facilities. However, one entrepreneur in India is taking on this challenge by finding innovative ways to repurpose this waste stream, such as turning it into sunglasses.
The process of making modern chip bags involves combining different layers of materials to create a durable and effective package. However, the downside of this design is that it makes the packaging extremely difficult to recycle. Traditional recycling plants are unable to process multilayer packaging, leading to a build-up of waste in landfills and oceans.
Despite the challenges of recycling multilayer packaging, there are solutions being developed to address this issue. One method involves using solvent washes to separate the different layers of materials, making them easier to recycle. However, this process can be costly and may require corporate subsidies to be viable on a larger scale.
In addition to developing new recycling methods, there is also a push towards using compostable chip bags as a more sustainable alternative. Companies like Tetra Pak have found ways to recycle multilayer milk cartons, offering a potential model for how other multilayer packages could be recycled in the future.
Overall, the issue of recycling chip bags and other multilayer packaging remains a challenge, but there are innovative solutions being developed to address the problem. As consumers become more conscious of the environmental impact of single-use plastics, it is crucial for businesses to find ways to make their packaging more sustainable and recyclable.

people didn't buy because it was too loud. wtf
Those are crisps
So ban chips. Problem solved
Years ago I worked in a state prison. Some of those guys were incredibly inventive and creative. Most guys made picture frames from empty chip bags, by folding and weaving the bags together. One guy made a motorcycle, entirely out of chip bags and another guy made a pickup truck from chip bags. Both doors and the hood were able to be opened and the wheels were dip cans. Genius.
@Ridwell recycles them! Is that a scam?
10$? Not bad for the process that went into making the sunglasses.
Hell, even selling the filament alone for 3-D printing would be huge.
"water with a high Ph" is commonly called an Acid.
Its insane how many trash we are producing every day. Just in our family… its devastating. I try to motivate older family members to be a bit self aware but for them this is normal…
wut about microplastic and water pollution
how do they pay for all of this?
what has loud sounding got to do with being green and thinking of recycling ?
i dint know stupid consumers prefer no sound snack bags than easier recycling !! how dumb can humans get ?
These human doesn't deserved a better earth. One should care about CHIPS taste and quality, NOT how loud packaging was.
Any recycling R&D and factory, govt should subsidies, or provide tax rebate to those who donate on these factory running cost.
Seems easier to just ban MLP bags. I have seen chips/crisps in pure plastic bags or a simple mix of paper and plastic.
Why arent they turning plastic into oil
This recycling scheme requires an abundance of cheap lobor, fuel intensive, and not scalable to achieve profitiably. I smell a scam.
My brother is single handily fueling the chip industry
Please change the narrator as his voice is very feeble to hear clearly.
Don't know most likely someone getting paid to keep it that way?
Well done guys! munches on packaged chips Keep it on! opens another pack of chips proceeds to buy really expensive plastic made sunglasses I'm so happy im contributing to this process by buying more stuff made up of plastic 🙂
So tell us, how do you treat the waste solution that dissolves the aluminum ?
I'll think twice now when buying a bag of chips
Anyone catch the Nazi sign at 3:50
❤
Jesus CHRIST. Burning it is still better than make it in gazillion pieces of microplastics and all the chemicals used… Not accounting the cost to do that. They said this was subsidized by the package making company… They will never generate any profit
Now I understand why the food industry have the biggest opportunity in implementing circular economy
Food waste even have a problem on its own, is composteable
Implementing circular economy in food packaging will be a huge changer
This guy talks like his abuser is sleeping in the room
Meanwhile at my job we make the plastic film in these bags at about 8 tons every 2h. That’s just one line. From 6 micron to 25 micron. We sen them to all sorts of packaging companies.
