As air travel begins to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the aviation industry is facing new challenges in Germany. Despite a global surge in travel demand, German airports are struggling to keep up due to high operational costs.
In a recent interview, Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary expressed frustration with the state of German aviation, particularly criticizing the high costs that airlines face in the country. O’Leary pointed out that some German airports, such as Berlin, are not competitive compared to other European hubs. He called on the German government to reduce taxes and fees for airlines in order to stimulate growth in the industry.
With travel restrictions easing and more passengers taking to the skies, the timing of O’Leary’s remarks is significant. Germany, known for its robust economy and advanced infrastructure, is falling behind in its aviation sector. As other European countries ramp up their air travel operations, questions remain about when German aviation will take off.
As the industry looks towards a post-pandemic future, it is clear that changes need to be made in order for German aviation to remain competitive on the global stage. It remains to be seen if the German government and airlines can work together to address these issues and propel the industry forward.

That moment when you realize that cats are smarter than you. At least in this video🔥
Gerne noch deutlich teuerer machen, so billig wie heute darf Fliegen nicht sein
Poznan has a nice airport less than 300km away and everyday there are buses from Berlin to Poznan for only 15€!!!
invest in trains instead, railway tickets are too expensive compared to airplane tickets.
The cost is inflated more so due to the obsession of their white skins and their renewed obsession with their favourite bedtime stories by Artur de Gobineau
warum gebt ihr diesm HRSN, der seine Mitarbeiter knechtet, überhaupt eine platform.
oh no, then don't fly from/to Germany with your exploitative rip-off airline
"Grammar police" here. Almost instantly the guy says 'less passengers' when it is, in fact FEWER not less.
germany overthrowned by poland
Great! More trains and better services and better planes.
great lobbying work
Ignore these moaners. They whinge about Dublin as well. They are constantly telling every airport they can take their airplanes elsewhere. Good luck to them. We'll done to the Germans. Love from Ireland.
Invest in high speed trains and shut down Ryanair.
Greens are good enough for Germany
Excuse me while I check out upon hearing an airline executive belittle trains during a conversation about climate. 🙄
A speech to investors. Otherwise, such rubbish.
We need an interview with Berlin Airport representative!
I wish Ryanair would increase fare rather than cut flights. Even if it's 3x more expensive, still cheaper than Lufthansa and there are people who would still chose Ryanair.
Jeah and thats why he stays?
Germany is irresponsible to increase aviation tax without fixing their infamous railways
"There is no other industry where we are trying more to reduce ou carbon emisssion" says Rianair CEO. He lives in a parallel world and should be sued for incentivizing planet overheating and for its consequence : mass killing. European Union should pass a bill to forbid advertisement for air transport, like it as been done for Tobacco and Alcohol. Air traffic destroys our planet unnecessarily.
Is this a regular segment on DW now? How many times are you going to invite this guy on to complain?
He doesn't understand that air travel is not pop in GOG. So, just stay away.
Funny CEO doesn’t talk about his payroll tax obligations to countries like France. Skirts responsibility!
