The streets of Bangladesh were filled with tension and turmoil on what would become known as the deadliest day of the protests in the country. On August 4, 2024, the nation witnessed a turning point as the student-led movement against the quota system for government jobs escalated to unprecedented levels.
As the days of July slipped away, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s reign in Bangladesh came to a dramatic end amidst the chaos and violence of the protests. The communications blackout that had been imposed by authorities only fueled the fire of the nationwide movement, with students and citizens alike demanding justice and reform.
One individual who bravely documented the unfolding events of that fateful day was photojournalist Jibon Ahmed. Through his lens, he captured the raw emotions and untold stories of #35thJuly, shedding light on the harsh realities faced by those fighting for their rights in the streets of Bangladesh.
“35th July – Bangladesh’s Deadly Protest” is a powerful documentary film created by Elizabeth D Costa, Adil Sakhawat, and Tareq Ahmed, offering a poignant and gripping portrayal of the events that shook the nation to its core.
As we look back on this pivotal moment in Bangladeshi history, it serves as a reminder of the resilience and courage of those who stood up against injustice, and the importance of bearing witness to the struggles of the oppressed.

Why does the narrative sound like the Police was shooting at the Awami League thugs when in reality they teamed up with the armed thugs and were shooting at unarmed protesters? The only reason they were friendly towards you was because you were wearing a vest that says "PRESS". The police wasn't on our side that day. They're the ones who killed most of our people. But I didn't hear you mention that once. Is this what you call unbiased journalism?
I have not witnessed 1971 firsthand, but I have seen the battlefield of 2024. While I didn't experience the liberation war myself, I felt the freedom of 2024 deeply. The blood-soaked sunrise of that morning still brings me to tears. On the 36th day, amidst the crimson glow of blood, I saw the dawn of 2024, which granted me the ability to speak, write, and express myself freely. I hold deep respect for those whose blood stained the streets and homes of Bengal, and I pray that Allah accepts the martyrs.
The truth is priceless
thanks al Jazeera

Thanks….. waiting for 36th July documentary 😢
The month of July 2024 was a terrible experience in the history of the Bengali nation
bring hasina and her crooks to justice.
I could not hold on my tears when I came to know, Hasina had fled on 5 August. All of our struggle and sacrifice against Hasina became meaningful. I believe 5 August 2024 is the happiest day for Bangladeshi after 16 December 1971.
On this day I was at the Banglamotore. I can't explain the situation. I'm still alive Alhamdulillah!

35th July! Inquilab jindabad !
Thank you Al Jazeera, for honoring this date.
We students want a God fearing leader, who'll lead our country justly.
and some advisors are misusing their platform, and trying to change our history. We will not stay quiet if they try to bring western ideology in our country!
Inquilab jindabad!
Thanks for the documentary, really appreciate it.
আমার সোনার বাংলা আমি তোমায় ভালোবাসি

Al Jazeera wants Bangladesh to be a communal/Islamist country. They are caught red handed harboring a terrorist as journalist in Gaza.
From Kenya 🇰🇪 good covery journalist
Now I understand what Al Jazeera meant by "No attacks on Hindus" they were reffering to 35th of July.😂 I agree that there were no attacks on Hindus on 35th July in Bangladesh
Thanks al jazeera ❤️

A police was shot by their own bullet! This is how some police was killed but they convicted the students killed them. How would students do such thing without any weapons! They are civilians.
Thanks a lot
