President Emmanuel Macron’s recent appointment of Michel Barnier as the new Prime Minister of France has sparked strong reactions from various political factions in the country. The decision has particularly angered leftist parties who had made significant gains in the recent elections, with many feeling that the selection of the right-wing politician goes against the wishes of the voters.
Barnier, known for his role in leading the Brexit negotiations for the European Union, has been met with skepticism and criticism from the left, who see him as an establishment figure out of touch with the progressive values they stand for. The appointment has been seen as a move by Macron to consolidate power and appeal to the more conservative elements of French society.
On the other hand, the far-right National Rally has surprisingly shown some level of support for Barnier’s nomination, stating that they would not immediately oppose it. This unexpected gesture signals a potential shift in political dynamics in France, with the far-right party possibly seeing an opportunity to align with Barnier on certain issues.
The controversy surrounding Barnier’s appointment underscores the deep divisions and tensions within French politics, as different parties struggle to navigate the evolving landscape. It remains to be seen how Barnier’s tenure as Prime Minister will play out and whether he can effectively address the concerns of all segments of society.

I think the people who voted for the party that won the popular vote – the RN and its alliance – are the ones who should feel betrayed. First in votes and 3rd in seats. The less than 30% who voted for the NPF alliance shouldn't feel too bad – they didn't get 30% of the vote and still ended up with the largest number of seats.
millions of voters feel ok. Barnier is a surprisingly good choice. But nobody will demonstrate on the street and shout "Barnier is a good choice!" or "Fine to me!".
Edit: thinking of it, Barnier is a really good choice.
More cry babies…😂😂😂
Barnier is the far right !
"Million of voters feel betrayed" meaning the far left politicians…lol
